got some $128.99 ebay stainless steel headers. pics inside

I have the black version of these headers from the same seller as the original post. They are almost 3 years old and so far they seam to be holding up well
What is the black? Is it a coating or something in the metallurgy?

In 3800 land, guys are seeing decent reliability with eBay China stainless headers. The biggest issue is fitment, but the heating and tweaking to get them attached is considered the price to pay for 1/3-1/2 the price of reputable brands. Some have seen cracks in the welds, but this also seems related to fitment, where lots of stress is put on the tubes to get everything hooked up. A transverse V is much worse in this respect, as you have to get the crossover pipe from the front header into the rear header. A truck is much more straight-forward.

Anyone gone down this road for a big block? I'm pulling the 454 from the donor truck this weekend, so it's about time to start thinking about the rest of the parts that I'll need to get. 454 going in a '86 K5 4x4. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted fenderwell headers, but I haven't found anything that will clear the factory AC box, so that's pretty much a deal breaker for me.

I dropped a 14 bolt carrier with ring gears and spiders on my big toe from waist height. I wasn't wearing sandals, but I wasn't wearing steel toed boots either. I may have felt more pain at some point in my life, but I can't remember when.

maybe as a kid going over a fence and feel separate making you teeter on the top rail? I know that is one of my horrible nightmares...

Saw a kid once slip on top of one of those medieval looking fences with the spikes on top...he went down right on top of a spike which went up....down there. I still get queasy every time I think about it, and the blood curdling scream he let loose...I don't know what ultimately happened to him, but I can't imagine it was anything good.

I have a set of the El cheapo stainless long tubes for my BBC swap I'm doing this weekend. So far they seem to be good. I've had the fender well and long tubes on my first Gen in stainless and the long tubes needed the end holes mouse out to start the bolts. Both held up well

if I ever get to my 8.1L - I planned on going manifolds as they say headers and 8.1L makes it that you can hear the exhaust noise in the headers...

Yea I'm sure but I can't see it being substantial enough to bother me and it'll make running my exhaust easier with less bends

pics from this morning. I really can't complain for $80

Ho close are these to OE manifolds as far as where they dump? I can't believe I am considering headers, but I am. You said you think these would be ok on a 4x4? My shackles are moved up with the 52" swap, Eco 205 clocked flat. I am going to do a single exhaust passenger side. Not sure where I'll cross over yet.

This truck had long tubes that hung down too far so I can't say for sure how they compare to stock manifolds. I do think they'll work on a 4x4......Exhaust on the passenger side? I ran mine on the driver side since I had more room over there with the case clocked flat.

Oops yeah driver side exhaust. It'll dump in front of the rear tire like yours. What do you run on your 4x4?

I run some tubular GM manifolds that were limited production, they fit nice and tight. Crossover the passenger side pipe under the bell housing to a merge along the drivers side of the trans.

i have a set of the original edelbrock tes headers like them .

sad part is a bit of frame notching is required mostly on the driverside . and the 02 port is the problem with its location .

it can be done but fab work on the top of the frame rail is required .

Got any pics? I have a completely bare front clip so I don't mind doing some clearancing.

go dig way back in my project STUBBY build from years ago in the driveway . its since been parted . but the pics are in there someplace .

my house computer took a dump and i have yet to get a new hd and swap the stuff back over i had recovered .

Those look like they will work ok. I can plug that bung and move it to the down pipe. Do you remember if the driveshaft clearance was ok? I saved the pics for everyone.

and that pic dont do the frame justice on how much was cut out .

and 88-up if i recall have different outlet locations and angle over the 73-87-91 style .

p.s. those headers are for sale in the correct section . .
