Griff's thread about nothing in particular.

Hard to tell from the pictures you posted, but that does not look like a Dana 60.

No, it doesn't fit my criteria, and no, said criteria haven't changed.

This is more of a mud truck, and it seems like it would be a damn good one.

I only bring it up, because this guy came to me, and wanted my Blazer, I don't even have the thing listed anywhere, and probably won't.
But, It is a 73-80, 4wd, 4 speed, 3/4 ton. BUT Its a Scottsdale, And has no floor, And the cab is only kinda sorta on the truck, And I'm pretty sure it was just a mud truck.

"Just a mud truck" is like saying "just an item that existed for the sole purpose of smashing it into swampy things." Generally not a good starting place for a luxury vehicle. I would avoid something like that even if I was building an offroader (unless it was ridiculously cheap)...You never know how much it has been abused. I can see why he'd want your blazer. He'd be trading up in a sense. Even more so if that's not actually a D60 under the front.

He sent me some more pictures, and that Dana 60, is in fact a 10 bolt. What I thought was a missing body puck, turned out to be a totally shot cab support and floor.

I would put the pictures here, but my email seems to have lost them.

A friend of mine just showed me this.

:doah:

No wonder he wants to trade.

Tell him you'll trade if he throws in $5000 cash. :deal:

Surprise Surprise, guess who isn't answering his phone anymore?

After telling him that his Dana 60 was a fraud, he played it dumb and seemed in a bit of a hurry to hang up.

Left this guy a message, He's asking $1400 (Considerably cheaper than alot of the much rustier trucks), but the truck has been on CL for over a month now.

That's not a D60, either. :deal:

But it looks like a decent starting place, body-wise.

What's it look like mechanically? And are you still wanting to trade, or are you adding to the fleet?

Ok, He called me, He told me about the truck, 76 K10, Custom deluxe, 4 BBL 350, Automatic, still full time. 109,000 original miles, with paperwork back to 78. Cab corners and rockers are great, floors are better. Bed floor is so-so, two good fenders and a kink-free hood. Only thing missing is the grill.

I start talking with the guy, I get him down to $900 on the phone, Told him I'd be there in an hour.
I steal my buddy's trailer, and I'm out of town by 5:00.

I get to the guys house at 6:12, and.

Tells me he sold it about 5 minutes ago.

For $700.

YOU ****WAGON!

Another CL zinger... :doah:

So, theres another truck that a buddy of mine had told me about that his neighbor is trying to sell.

86 K10 Silverado, 305, 700R4, Floors are good, rockers are so-so, bed is almost perfect. Problem with this one is, the 700R4 only goes backwards, and he's pretty set on $1000 for it.
Not in a huge hurry to pay $1000 for a truck that needs a transmission.

Just throwing it out there to be discussed.

In other news, 3 gallons of 15W40 Rotella T is expensive!

That's ok, a 350/465 swap fixes 2 of the things wrong with it. Offer $700, if he doesn't take it, wait a week and call him back.
You like the hunt anyway

I've considered that, But I've done the auto to 4 spd swap before on a friends truck, and it sucks!

But I would do it again, IF, big If, I can find driveshafts or have them made for less than $600.

Well I went a talked to the guy and looked at the truck.

Has new brakes all around, new radiator, brand new tires, and he just had the windshield replaced.
The 305 runs very good, but needs valve seals. Still has vacuum locking hubs, that work. and the 700R4 actually works fine, but if it gets warm, it starts to sound real angry, and loses all forward gears.

Guy is 90 years old, he bought the truck new, when the trans did its thing, he decided just to get a new truck.
And he is very firm on $1000.

Sounds like it will be a good rig for someone, whether or not it fits your criteria.

I go over to my buddies house today, I see two more trucks in his front yard, He got a pair of 85 C30's, both black crewcab duallys. One with a pickup bed, one with a utility bed.
Pickup bed is a Scottsdale with a 350 and a 4 speed.
Utility bed is a Silverado with a 454 and a TH400.

Both run, both have titles, both need some rust attention, but both have good floors.

And, he gave $450 for the both of them.

I don't know where he finds this shit. he wasn't even looking for a truck, he got a call from another friends of ours neighbor, told him if he hauled them off, he could have them for $450.
