Griff's thread about nothing in particular.

Back to Cummins based things.

I'm having a hell of a time re-priming the system after changing the fuel filter. I filled the filter, put it on, then I pumped the shiitake out of the primer button. Tried to start it, and it just sat there cranking.

I can't find the main supply line into the P7100, Or I'd check that. I cracked the overflow valve loose and I did get some air hissing out of that, but still nothing to the injectors.

If you're still getting air out of the overflow...then the system still has air in it. :deal:

Right? :dunno:

Thank you professor, I gathered that much on my own, :surepal:

It hissed, then it eventually stopped hissing, I then assumed the air was gone.

It was not.

Not trying to be captain obvious, I simply wanted to make sure that you were getting fuel out of the overflow line before you gave up on priming that part of the system. Having the hissing stop only indicates that you've bled the pressure off, not that the air is all out.

No, I haven't gotten any fuel out of the overflow, only air.

I know that there is fuel in the filter, and its not reaching the pump.
I have to lift the shutoff solenoid myself to start the truck, I wonder it that has anything to do with it, I doubt it though, as it has run already like that,

And I'm sorry if I sounded snappy, thats not how I mean't it.

Time to jump back to GM stuff, again.

This morning I rode about 60 miles away to go look a truck with a buddy of mine, All he told me was that is was a 2002 K2500, since that was all he knew about it.
We get there, every single body panel is wrinkled, the bed and the cab don't line up, hood won't shut all the way and the drivers side window won't roll up.
He opens the hood, see's that it isn't a Duramax, and loses interest.

I go over and see that its an 8.1, with a 6 speed and a floor shift transfer case behind it, with 97,000 miles. If I'd of had $3000, It might have come home with me, just for the running gear.

Have some pictures.

He's got pictures, I'll see if I can get them.

So...what, exactly, are you looking for in a truck? Besides trying to keep your driveway full, I'm not seeing what all these truck ideas have in common. :dunno:

Nothing, really, I just threw that one out there because I thought it was worth mentioning.

I still really would like to find a 73-80 3/4 or one ton 4wd in Cheyenne or Silverado trim.
I'd also very much like to find a crew cab in the same vintage and trim, but I don't hold out much hope for that, realistically.

If I find a half ton that is nice enough, I'd probably go for it, but if the option is available, I'd rather have a 3/4 or one ton.

Now for something completely different.

Anyone planning on being in Mexico any time soon? if so, could you hit up a junkyard, or even a Dodge dealer perhaps, and see if you can find a set or two of the not quite west coast mirrors that were used on the mid-90's Mexican Ram 4000/7000 trucks?

So today I was messing with my friends new $200 truck, 85 C30 Crewcab Scottsdale, 350 4 spd.

Clutch wasn't froze, the rod going to the master cylinder was bent, changed that and the trans was fine.
Its got a 1406 Edelbrock on it, and the electric choke isn't doing anything, so I rigged up a manual choke, called that done.

Only things left on it are to figure out why the brake lights won't go off, find out which brake is hanging, find some steer tires and find a new mirror for the driver's side.

This truck is growing on me, the more I mess with it the more I want to make him an offer on it.

Also, does anyone know anything about old vacuum trailer brakes? My buddy swore it had trailer air brakes, turns out it was an old school vacuum trailer brake setup, with two big rubber lines, a proper service line and emergency line.

Continued work on the $200 Crewcab today. Got both tanks working, changed the fuel pimp. got his new tires mounted, got new, un-busted cab lights and a pair of west coast mirrors from the junkyard.
Got back to his house, got the cab lights on it, rode out a tornado, moved the truck outside, learned the mirrors I bought don't match. So I put the tri-pods back on it, just rummaged around and found a new mirror head.

Next thing is one of his biggest complaints with it, get rid of the headers. he hates headers with a burning passion, I'm just going to pull a set of manifolds off of another engine he has sitting around, after I get him to buy some new manifold gaskets.

I guess this my journal now.

So...are you buying the CC, or just donating your time to his build?

I've just been tinkering with it when I'm in town.

Although I'm quickly becoming attached to it.

Also, forgot to mention, changed out the hydroboost for a vacuum booster.

We were having a hell of a time bleeding the brakes, it was his idea to go to a vacuum booster, seemed to do the trick.

I have absolutely no idea, He was convinced it would fix the issue.

The brakes would not build any pressure whatsoever, I'd fill the front chamber of the M/C up, and it would just disappear, I couldn't find any leaks, For all I know it would teleport to another dimension. I was a loss. He went and got the vacuum booster off of one of his parts trucks, and I threw it on the truck, and then it was able to build pressure.

And no, the M/C was no changed. Don't ask me how it worked, I don't know.

This also seems to the most highly optioned Scottsdale I've ever seen. Cloth seats, A/C, clock, It originally had carpet, now its got a rubber floor. Also originally had a 454, but its moved on. And its got a 4.10 Dana 70.

Well, I decided to ask if I could buy the crewcab, He's really not interested. I don't really blame him right now, seeing as how all his other trucks have some kind of major issue currently, and the crewcab really only needs tires at this point.

86 C20 4 spd needs a rear end.
72 C20 Needs a transmission
82 K10 needs a transfer case.
86 C20 Suburban needs a rear end and a transmission
2001 half ton GMC has a bent frame and the trans is slipping
76 K10 Currently has no engine
79 K10 shortbed is kind of roadworthy, but doesn't have reverse, And it's a shortbed, which he has no interest in driving,

I figure I'll just wait six months, he'll get tired of it.

Sounds like he has a pattern of getting tired with trucks.

That's not even counting the ones he's sold.

Lets start in 2013 and work our way to the present.

First, 95 S10, sold it to get a 92 K1500.
Sold the 92 K1500 when the front end fell apart (Literally, the wheels fell off)
Bought an 89 C1500 4.3 Blew it up.
Bought a 00 C1500 4.3 Blew it up.
Bought a 93 318 Dakota, owned it for 3 weeks. Sold it because it wasn't a Chevy
Bought a 97 C2500, rear end scattered at 70.
Bought the 76 K10 he has now, but the previous owner kept the engine. (Still has)
Traded off a 94 Grand Cherokee 4.0 that his Mom gave him, absolutely un-killable, but it wasn't a Chevy.
Traded the Jeep for an 82 K10, that he promptly dropped the T/C out of. (Still has)
Bought a 75 Shortbed K10 for parts, Never actually drove it before it was stripped.
Bought a 82 Dodge W-150 318-2bbl, beat the piss out of it, traded it for a 78 Shortbed K10
Never actually drove the 78 Shortbed before he parted it out.
Bought an 89 K1500 put a junkyard fresh 350 in it, traded it for a set of 37's.
Bought an 01 GMC C1500 ECSB, This one he currently still drives, but he's bent the frame down behind the rear spring shackles from a tongue heavy trailer. And now the trans is starting to slip.

I figure he'll lose interest in the crew cab within the next couple months, then I'll offer him $500, which is more than twice what he gave for it.
