Okay, I personally have never owned Hawgs, but I have wheeled with a guy who ran Hawgs (mostly just a short muddy woods trail). I ran swampers, both trucks were similar (mine was an 80 K20, his a K10, not sure of year). He had a hell of a time in several mud holes, that my truck just walked right through, and vice versa, but overall I'd say the truck with the Hawgs had more trouble.

One other point, at least around me when I used to mud race, the tire of choice for mud racing and mud bogs around me is Swampers of some sort (TSL's or Boggers). Now I would take that as a pretty good indication that TSL's or Boggers are better than Hawgs, at least when there is a bottom. If Hawgs just totally outperformed Swampers in the mud, why aren't the mud racers/boggers running them?

Like I said, I've never ran Hawgs, this is just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth, I'm not trying to say they're a bad tire, just giving my take on the issue.

I ran the 4 Wheel RVT's that where Ground Hawg knock-offs. I used them on everything, rocks, mud, trails. They worked pretty good. They wore really good on the street. I had them on my DD /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif forever until they just got to bald. I got tired of going around corners sideways. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thats a pretty good price on hawgs from Tyres1. I ran the equivelant to the 36x14.40x15 GHII's. I might have to order some more soon.

Excellent, non-biased opinion Justin. If more people (like Tim) would post their opinions like that then we wouldn't have so many arguments on this site. We need to just present the information we have and let the poster make the decision, not force our opinion on to him. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Those are more of a tread pattern like a Swamper or a Gumbo Mudder, not a Hawg.

I have always been told that the RVT's where Hawgs. The tread pattern looks really close to gumbo mudders and hawgs, the outer lugs dont match swampers. Also the only tires that matched the size I had were the GHII radials. Someone posted a set of tires for sell awhile back (somewhere in TN or GA I think?) that was a mix of the hawgs, and I think buckshot mudder and they matched pretty well. You couldnt really tell they were not the same tire design when they were stacked up. Also when I posted questions about where to find replacement RVT's, I was told to look up Denman's site. old thread

But I firmly belive for what I want too do, (Mudding, fire road trails in the forest, mild rock crawling, and streets,) that the Ground Hawg's are my best choice. I can't afford too replace tires every year or 2. To me, a tire that will last along time is a high priority.

The TSL's on front/boggers on rear is the setup I ran when i used to race, worked awesome, much better than TSL's at all four corners.

I wasn't disputing road wear, swampers wear like [darn] on the road, and I do know the Hawgs will outlast a swamper on the road, so if longevity is a concern, then they are a good choice.

My comment was in regards to mud, I misread your post I quoted. When I reread your post that I quoted I realized you were responding to Tim's post, and I believe you were implying he wouldn't know about performance since he never ran Hawgs. I should have quoted Ugly Blazer's earlier post.

I still hold my opinion that swampers a better tire for mud. I run mud/woods trails, rocks, sand/pea gravel, etc. and will stick with the swampers. I trailer my jeep to the trail, so it sees zero road use. Maybe someday I'll come across a cheap set of hawgs and try them out, but until then, I know I like the swampers and don't have any complaints about them, so I will continue to use them. I don't have the extra money lying around to buy a new set of hawgs just to try them out and then be disappointed if they don't work out.

In fact I need to replace two of the tires on the jeep and am trying to decide whether to go with SX's again, or boggers for the rear. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

AMEN! /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif That is exactly why I run them. If I had a trail only rig I would run super swampers.

Agreed 100% on that one.

No, I have never owned hawgs, but I too have wheeled with people that have, up to the 44" Hawgs my friend had on his K20 that were like brand new, and I was never impressed.

I think you'll want to keep the SX's on the Jeep. I, too, would love to run Boggers in the rear, but with all the rock I've been seeing lately, I'd be sliding all over the place with Boggers.

If they only had a tire with as good of forward traction in mud as a Bogger, that had the lateral traction of a TSL, they'd be perfect.

I'd say that's what IROKs were, if they only came wider. I really wonder why they don't make a 39.5x18 version of the IROK or something, I'd be all over it.

If I get Boggers for the rear, I will groove them to gain some lateral stability.

The thing I'm not sure I like about the IROKs is the tread depth, I wish they had deeper tread. But since I only need two tires right now, I won't be getting IROKs.

I have been mudding longer than most kids on this site have been alive,(Damn I hate to show my age,,,,)

I have run Hawgs on every off road truck I have owned.

Fact 1 They will out last a Swamper/ Bogger on the road 2 to 1.
Fact 2 They will pull in the mud in one direction very well.
Fact 3 They cost less that Swampers/Boggers.
Fact 4 They ride rough and flat spot when parked a while.

To debate the one tire is better than the other is bullcrap
as there are too many variables between trucks, drivers,
suspensions,horsepower, Etc.

I have enough horsepower to spin all four at will on road or off, I have tried both boggers and hawgs,, they both perform well. The deciding factor for me is cost. I don't rockcrawl so I won't speak for either tire in that respect.
but for mud and trails and on road I'll buy Hawg's forever.
and BTW I've gone and pulled out plenty of stuck trucks with boggers and swampers on them.
