Ground hawgs opinions??

Like I said before, I have wheeled with people with every size of Bias Ground Hawgs offered (35s, 38.5s, 40s, and 44s) and I have never been impressed with their performance, especially in reverse.

I don't think Swampers are the end-all in the quest for a tire with some grip, but I do not care for Ground Hawgs.

I think if I had a set, I'd grove the snot out of them.

Let's see, guy buys new truck, guy wheels it with you, truck is pathetic, you don't own truck, you witness truck's patheticness, you have strong reason to be of the opinion truck sucks.

I'm sure it would be a great move for Time to go buy tires that he has seen not perform well to make sure they suck as bad as he thinks they do

Z3PR, don't you usually jump on Tbird bashing threads? Do you own T birds?

Anyway, I've seen Hawgs on a few trucks, hard as hell, luggy outers, I assume they'd do between a swamper and a BFG MT in the mud and suck everywhere else with the solid centersection. Too flat and hard for ice, too flat and hard for much of anything. That's good for life though.

[/ QUOTE ] Not really, just stated what I've read about them. I usely try too say I've read, or I've heard, but I may have forgotten too put that in a time or two. I'll try too remember too do so next time it concerns something I haven't owned.

Really Tim, you gotta try 'em yourself! If I wouldn't have gotten such a good buy on these (crappy) Mickeys, i'd run somemore!

Actually i just grooved the snot out of my swampers, it took three hours per tire. As soon as the member's area gets back up I'll post up some pics. Just playing around in the yard in 2wd, they will throw some SERIOUS mud now!!!

That, and my anti-wrap bar works like a charm. I put my front tires up against my trailer and i was doing 3,000 RPM clutch drops watching out the window at the rear tires, no hop all the way to the rev limiter /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i'd like to see the tires tim sounds cool!

any one have a pic of a groved set of hawgs??/ i think that might be worth while. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I can't wait to pimp the pics.

No surprises as to the design though, I stole it from Watson's and Kidjethro's 42s, plus grooved the tie bars out between the chevrons because my tires only have maybe 25% tread left and that is a optimistic estimate. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Why is Tim the only person who said that Hawgs suck? It seems that if they did indeed suck so maojorly bad that it would be known by all, not by just the all knowing... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

For a truck that sees mostly street, I think they would be a decent tire. But based on what I have seen of them, I wouldn't run them on a trail rig. The only hawgs I have seen work really well in mud have been totally grooved and basically didn't even resemble a hawg anymore. I haven't owned them, just based on what I have seen of them on the trails and at mud races/bogs.

Ugly Blazer - I did sort of respond to your earlier post about hawgs going through mud that swampers wouldn't. My point is look at the mud racing/bogging crowd, what is the tire of choice? Boggers or TSL's, if hawgs outperform the swampers like you say, why isn't the mud racing/bogging crowd running them?..At least at the races/events I go to and have been to, you rarely if ever see someone running a set of ground hawgs.

Everybody needs to keep in mind there are many variables with how well a tire works. All tires work better/worse depending on driver skill, engine size/power, etc.

For me it's not worth spending the money on them to try them out when what I have seen of them they don't work well for what I use the jeep for. Keep in mind, the jeep gets trailered to the trail and sees no street use. I am very happy with the swamper SX's, and will stay with them, or possibly go to grooved boggers on the rear.

Thats a good example. A stock 305 with 44" boggers will be useless, compared to a stock 305 with MT/r's or something. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I have 3 sets of tires for the same truck, I know what works better...

I say go with X Terrains if you want a good trail/mud/dd.

I also hear good thinks about mickey tompson mts but noting about how they preform on rocks.

In my honest oppenion i would save up and keep the tires you have on there for a while. I wish i was more paitent with my money because i would have gotten the 39.5 in radial iroks

X-terrains suck IMO. Zero lateral traction, don't really selfclean well either. If you are a rock guy, they are very sticky, but... As a matter of fact, those things wear faster than boggers.

For the record, the price on Hawgs is so damn good, I might try 'em out next round of tires, just cuz they are so cheap, it'll only take me a couple of months to save to replace them if I need to.

I have 35" General Grabber MT's, 36" Super Swamper SX's, and 38.5" Ground Hawgs. The Hawgs are the best in the mud around here (our lake/swamp), the bottomless clay gumbo type. The Swampers do very good, but not quite as well as the Hawgs. In dry hard packed dirt the Swampers do a little better. The Hawgs ride better than the Swampers on the road. Although I have not tried the Generals wheelin' yet, I like them the most simply because they are radials and ride nice.

Here are some poser pics with the 3 different sets
