GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

Well yesterday I got my second storage box installed. I loaded up all my fluids, tools, and recovery equipment. I installed a first aid kit as well as a fire extinguisher. Then I went wheeling a bit. Then last night I worked on the winch mount but it was slowing going. Very cold outside and all my batteries went dead trying to drill a few 9/16" hole through 3/4" thick steel. If the wife lets me work on it today I will get some more pictures.

more done

Well I got some more done.

First I had to get all of my holes drilled to hang the mount.

Then I had to grind down some of the fins on the motor for clearance and then I mounted the winch to test fit.

Even with clearancing the frame and the motor it was still a very tight fit.

Here is what it looked like mounted up.

After I got all of this done I started working on my tow points but then I got called into work. I am going to put in two short 2" receiver hitches on either side of the fairlead that poke through the bumper about 3.5". If I have time tomorrow I am going to try to get the angle iron braces installed on the bottom and get the holes in the bumper cut for the tubes.

more progress

I got a little bit more done tonight. I added two 2" receiver tubes to the winch mount to install accessories like clevises etc. I still have to brace them a bit but I don't think they will ever go anywhere.

Here is a shot of what it will look like with the bumper installed.

I also when and removed the doors and tailgate from my old donor truck. I am going to make half doors out of the doors and I installed the tailgate but the handle is jacked up so it won't open.

Do you guys like it so far?

but oh no where are you going to put your front liciense plate? :haha:

looks real good :waytogo:

Not required in Kansas. For a bit we were thinking about running the fairlead behind the licence plate for a total stealth approch.

Got it painted

Well I got the paint on tonight. I decided not to brace the receiver tubes because the frame will most likely break before the welds do. If they do break then I will be just a bit upset but chit happens. All I have left to do is install it, wire it up, build a brace for the fairlead and a two braces for the bottom of the winch mount and I will be ready to roll.

HA HA! I got my winch installed last night and I built the whole thing backwards. The winch spools the opposite direction from what I thought which sucks because I have to do alot more work to get it right. I was just going to spool the cable on backwards but warn said it would work against the brake which would cause alot of heat. PISS!

If you saw the welds you would understand. If something is going to break the receiver tubes off then it is also going to cause damage somewhere else. I would rather have them brake them pull off my front clip.
