ok so im getting tired of every 2 years deal with the inspection guys... now with them telling me they are not going to pass my truck... i just dont want to deal with them anymore...

NJ lift law is 0-10,000lb gvrw
over that there is NO inspection....

well you know what screw it i just might go this route...

however one more shot.. im going to try and get historic qq tags first...
my truck is a 78.... so will see...

however i need to start trying to track down what would one of these be.. i dont want a c60

now something like this would work....

but i need a crew cab... more on that truck.. quick google got me to it..

i dont care if it is a 3+3, suburban or whatever... i want a crew cab wheeler....
hmm dunno i could wheel one of these...

those tires are 45" so i could run 44" boggers on the street 100% legal.... take my truck and turn it into a parts truck... axles, motor, and all....

Why are they telling you they will not pass your truck?

years ago a guy was at the inspection.. nj changed their lift laws in 1997...
it used to be 44's and certain guidelines... bumper height, headlights, tail lights, etc...

now for my class... (higher class due to 8400gvrw).. i can be 11" over stock to bottom of door..

i am there..
8" and 40" hawgs...

now this is the deal.. i bought hawgs and put them on 12" rims instead of 9.75" rims so it took the tire from 39" to 38.8"..
the guy passed it in 2004..... but he was the guy that allowed things.. like my 5 rollbar lights and 4 front bumper lights and no front mudflaps...

in 07 i went back.. 2 new guys.. they said the other guy is gone.. wonder why
well anyway... they failed me for too many aux lights (can only have 2), no front mudflaps.... so i fixed all that and they passed me.. WITH THESE TIRES!!!!
they measure the tires physically from left to right as you let air out they will widen.....

so now im at 38.8" and when i just called a few weeks ago... i always call due to if something else changed.. he asked what tires i had.. i told him and he said no he will not pass me...

no i know the work arounds.. borrow tires (got someone to let me borrow 37's but they are on 6 lug rims.... ) so alot of work.. but go through then back on my tires.. i want to be LEGIT....

now here is the dealio.. im gonna try and get them down.. think i got too much air in them now (almost have enough money for insurance and reg)...
drive it to round the bias tires out... then let some air out...
i measured a front tire the other day and it was 38...pretty much even... then a back.. and it was 39"!!!!!!!!

if i can get them to 38.5" ill fight him... a new tsl/sx is 38.2... so he says 38.0 is it.. then how do i buy 38's that are .2 more and he will pass?

this is rediculous so guess ill have to see what i can get it to then battle with him at the inspection station...

or if i can find a 10,001 gvrw truck... buy it... lift it... 44's and say SCREW YOU :pimp:

prob is i dont have the money for 38's.... i got great 40's now..... that are not a true 40!!!!!!

who's doing this, the stability test place?

do you use Asbury? i hear the one down south is way better than asbury...

i thought you jersey guys only had immissions tersting now?no safety checks anymore.maybe just for cars.

for regular inspection.... anything lifted still needs the tilt test afaik. i'm just not sure EXACTLY what they look at....

My 92 Dodge is 10500

im having a feeling im going to become a ford or dodge guy..... also see below...

for regular inspection.... anything lifted still needs the tilt test afaik. i'm just not sure EXACTLY what they look at....

2 auxillary lights,
mudflaps in back cover entire tire and are 8" from ground or lower
front mudflaps
3 different sizes on trucks..

gvrw think it is
up to 4500 - 7" over stock 35's
4501-7500 - 9" over stock 36's
7501-10000 - 11" over stock 38's

now a chevy supposedly has a higher frame so... my truck in tier 3 is allowed 11"... total including tire lift.. sooo
8" and 38's is riding close.. on my truck right now im 32" to bottom of door..

basically it is easy...
you call them and they will tell you what supposedly stock is on your truck.. then add the alloted height and up you go...

kicker.. supposedly ford and dodge have lower frames... (my 08 silverado is lower than most so id like to know what im allowed as i feel the lift law is stupidly incorrect....
due to the lower frames they are allowed 3" higher on door height... so 36" to bottom of door....believe it or not that 3" helps.. i took my 3" body lift and it makes a world of difference....

also i know about moving.... when you are 37, family everywhere.... tell me if you can just up and move due to lift law..... there are ways around it... so im gonna start looking into them.....

cab swap, plus the baby back windows are cool!

legal means titles get combined... not sure how they will go bout that..

so like said.. im trying to see what year crew cab (more for the cab) is over 10k.... im planning on the swap.. have done it 3 times already :whistle:including auto to smc swap in 1991.. yeah before internet :pimp:

so thats all the tilt test guys check? no poking around under the hood, etc?

Can you not just register your vehicle for whatever weight you want? I can register my pickups any where from 8k to 15k for my business in Oklahoma. I just tell them when I buy a new tag sticker what weight I want. It's the weight of the truck plus whatever I'm towing. If it's over a certain weight you have to register with the DOT though. Maybe this is something different.

Move to PA or NY?

i think pa is worse... ny aint great too.. they are all doing this crap...

so thats all the tilt test guys check? no poking around under the hood, etc?

no they do the sniff test.... brake test... you know drive then slam brakes on the pads.... also they check all lights.... lift front and shake the hell out of everything.. they inspect the lift.. make sure tie rods are tight... etc...

there is alot to it.. i dont mind the alot.... im just trying to figure out what i want to do next in the sense of get around the law.. but they must be onto it... as if trucks have been coming out over 10k.. they must know that you can take say that 92 dodge and slam 53" boggers under it... legally it is lift law exempt... im trying to see if i can find a chevy like that... so that is what the original post was about...

not move to anywhere but here..... i know im not ragging on yall.. BUT I AINT MOVING!!!!!!!!
my next set of tires will be 38" hawgs to get around this crap....

you can register at 50,000 lbs if you want... the gvrw is what is on the vin plate... that is what they go by... one guy did originally do the 10,001lb registration to get around it.. but he didnt get around it.. they overlooked it at first as they were just changing the lift law... slam down the ones that dont think of it.. grandfather the others in for 2 years then slam them....

the law is tough.. i get it.. i also get that moving elsewhere is better as most of you say.... that is great too.... however.... im staying put in NJ and will get the truck fully NJ legal.. but if i can get a truck that is exempt i will....

i know a bud that they had a white truck at the fire department.. it pretty much had 44's with an exo.. crew cab.. im gonna have to ask him what it was... i will go big... i dont care.. fullsize class 3 or 4 as long as it looks ok....and functional...

.

wow, that sucks.... and is stupid beyond belief.... so.... i have to go to regular inspection to get smog tested, then get smogged again at tilt test....:screwy:
