"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

LOL well Im set on 100 posts per page.

Update: Got the flow/pressure mods done on the pump and reinstalled. Several hours later I got the box installed.. F^&KIN junkyard box better work! I was going to just swap out the sector shaft and front cap with the ox that was already in it, but the pitman arm seal is leaking pretty bad so Im gonna replace those, or warranty it at Autozone :waytogo:

Should have everything plumbed tomorrow sometime.

Wife is killing my vacation time to work on my rig with house projects so it takes forever to get anything done :doah:

Also gotta lincoln lock a 14B for my buddy and bend up a piece of tube for another friends tube bed.

1.25" I believe. I got it from Sky 6-7 years ago. I was going to upgrade, but this one takes a beating and is still straight :waytogo:

Thats what mine from sky was too from 3-4 years ago. Mine held up good too, just sold it to a guy in Hawaii few months ago with arms. It just looked small with your ram mount on there!:D

Yeah I never really noticed till I got a new 1.5" Draglink :doah:

Update. Everything is plumbed and installed. Pictures later.

What? The assist? Im sure if I can ever get the G*d D@mn air out of the system!! My arms are getting tired now LOL After installing the steering box yesterday and all the cranking back and forth tonight... Its gettin there.

Well now I cant steer at all. I must have cycled the steering 150 times. Still bubbles in the fluid and it still feels the same as the very first cycle. Its kind of hard to turn with the tires off the ground. There are times it gets easier for a turn or two, but then gets hard again. Kinda wierd that it hisses when I shut it off..is that just air escaping? Is there a chance it could be sucking air anywhere, or wouldnt it leak there as well? There are no leaks.

This is a used box and the original pump. I have a new box and I may grab a new pump tomorrow.. FML

mine did that and i just kept cycling it over and over and letting it run not doing anything. it did take quite a while, like hours while. but i had a couple buddies to bs with at the time.
i also didnt have an external resivoir at the time and after i did that it wouldnt hiss and spit up after i shut it off.

This sounds dumb, but have you maintained fluid level through all your cycling? Did it ever run low? That will allow the pump to suck air...just like bleeding brakes.

Good luck.

thats really wierd.. are you sure the lines are connected the correct way to the ram?

Don't know if you are doing it already, but try doing it with the front end supported by jack stands. It'll help bleed it faster because you can turn it faster. We do that with the hydro boost on the HMMWV's at work and it goes super fast compered to with the weight on the front tires.

Yup that was the problem. I was doing it by myself so I couldnt see the fluid level while cycling, but full lock turns it was sucking air. All done now.Pics uploading :pimp:

Thanks to Scott (4x4High) for several phone calls helping me with my steering box and troubleshooting problems and Rene for some great welding advice :waytogo:

Ok so two problems were causing the problem. The original cooler I was using was large and mounted on the driver side opposite my tans cooler. Air was trapped up high and it was mounted higher than the reservoir level. When I shut the truck off the fluid would run down and over flow. I mounted a smaller stacked plate cooler on the bottom side of the core support.

Second the pump was sucking air on full lock turns so I could have cycled it forever. I had read people are running similar setups without a reservoir, but maybe its the 2" Ram or who knows but I added my hydroboost res. I was going to get the Chrysler part 4x4High has posted before, but my local dealer couldnt get one for some time.

I got two fittings from Home Depot. A 1.5"-1" and a 1"-5/8. A chunk of 5/8 hose and a chunck of rad hose. Clamped them all together and built a bracket for my external reservoir. Cycled it 5-6 times and done! Works great one finger at idle lock to lock :thumb: :pimp: :waytogo: :woot:

On to the pics

Cut some extra pieces of hose for chafe protection.

Got a couple lights put on while I was wasting time trying to bleed the system  Grille back on a freshly painted core support. Pretty much looks like a factory restoration now :haha::haha::haha::haha:

Oh,.......... well your the expert on factory restorations :D:D

You going wheeling on Saturday to try it out?

I always told poeple most of the dents in my blazer came from my inability to steer (no hydro) or inability to crawl (crap gears)

I obviously need to come up with some different excuses now
