"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

Ok big update! For those that don't have the Spacebook or Instagram or just haven't been paying attention :haha: I bought @muddermilitia Ryan's "Dirty Girl" Trazer.

Eric @blazinzuk left from Wyoming in his new R2500 Suburban and drove to IL to pick it up for me. I had a hunting trip scheduled in Montana at the end of November so we took the scenic route to NW Montana. We left NW Washington on Friday Nov 10th and drug my 82 crew down south to Longview to it's new owners house. Ten miles south of there we stopped and picked up a Blazer cage and then headed east out of Portland. Sat evening we got to Eric's place and finally got to meet him. Spent Sunday moving the Trazer from his trailer to mine and carefully cutting up the cage so everything would fit on the trailer. Also picked up a 9.5" 14 bolt for the Grey Blazer from Eric.

From Eric's place we went north back into ID and then to MT and got in a solid week of hunting. Headed back to WA the following weekend. All in all we logged almost 3500 miles, 5 states, crossed the Continental Divide 4 times. sold a truck, bought a truck, and shot a deer. Got to meet new friends and visit with some old friends. Great trip.

Now.. I suppose we need to come up with a new name for the build and discuss the future plans. Ryan I would like your input here as I know you have a lot of time, money, and memories with the Trazer as do I with the Hardcore build, and I want to retain pieces of both that will do them justice. Me and Eric discussed a few different ideas.
The idea I have in my head is to swap everything from the Trazer onto my chassis. My fenders and bedsides are getting stripped and I have new skins that will go back on. I will keep the black and blue theme on the paint. KInda thinking 81-88 two tone scheme black/blue/black. The axles from Dirty Girl were my main reason for the purchase as I had plans to build mine very close to what they are. The full hydro and all the tube work were a huge bonus.
Eric proposed the idea of swapping my engine trans case into the Trazer, but my main issue with that is I want to retain the Blazer body for the rear seats. Also my Blazer is plated insured etc already and with my out of state Military registration re-doing that adds a degree of complication as well.
I figure the axles and the springs are a fairly straight forward swap. The only real work will be moving the mounts for the rear 63s and swapping my stock brackets for the B52 mounts.
I've scoped out the tube work and I am pretty sure I can make cuts at the base of the exo at the sliders and fwd mounts and simply move it to the Blazer body. The only piece I wouldn't retain from the Trazer is the tube bed.

As for the roll cage I have to do some measuring still, but I want to re-do the A pillars so they go through the dash. I think once I have the A pillars changed I should be able to slide the fwd portion into the cab and then sleeve and re-attach the rear portion.

Thoughts? Inputs? Ideas?

Just a thought. Both trucks are 1989 Chevy V10 Blazers. The trazer vin tag was removed from the old body and riveted to the truck cab. No reason why you couldn't swap that out for the vin tag from your 89 blazer. Then put a DIY4x dash in place and nobody would ever know where the tag came from. Then swap your drivetrain into it. Since they are identical trucks, it should be an easy swap.

I agree with you on having a rear seat, that is something that I missed after I did the cab swap. I actually have a pair of Subaru Brat seats that I was gonna mount back there lol. I would rework the rear tube to work for your needs. Maybe even utilize some of the cage you bought. Worse case, just cut the whole rear flatbed off and totally redo the stuff behind the cab

I know the Trazer cage was bonus parts but why buy the cage out of Oregon? Is it that much different from your current cage in the Blazer?

Nvm, I see it now. I forgot your Blazer didn't have a front cage section.

So... Mix the 2 cages together or go with the whole Oregon cage?

Yeah I hadn't looked close, but I noticed it was an 89 V series VIN on the truck cab.. LOL I wondered if thats what you did. The metal work and swapping stuff around seems like easier work to me than trying to put the wiring and stuff back into a new cab. Oh and I forgot..My Hardcore Blazer has a heater!

Yeah I grabbed the OR cage because it was so cheap. I will end up with probably close to another full cage left over. I am kinda toying with the idea of setting that up as a sale project to re-coup some money.

Well with the weather around here and only my garage to work in I decided that putting the Trazer back on the trailer is the "easiest" route to take. This way I can pull springs and axles without laying in the mud and fighting with jacks. I have a couple 20' railroad ties I am going to section up and build some cribbing to set the frame rails on. So I used a come along and got it back on the trailer.

Pulled the cage and seat brackets from the Blazer. Tried to get the sliders off, but the bolts are terribly rusty. Note to self use anti-seize on cage/slider bolts that never get messed with. It looks funny without the tube work now.

Took a bunch of measurements on the new cage. The side bars on the halo aren't going to work with the half cab so I need to re-do the halo. Everything else looks like it will be good. I am undecided on keeping the door bars. Maybe I will make some new ones.

Next step is to get the sliders off the Blazer and remove the dash. Oh and those crappy rear seats need to come out too.
