I'm thinking of having my powder coated bumper Line-Xed. Reason why is there is some rust coming thru the PC and it just gets my goat. I HATE rust with a passion. I know I know, if I dent it, scratch it I can't weld repair it. You CAN weld repair ANYTHING IF you need to or want to. It's how your going to re-do the finish on it thats the problem. As long as I don't have them srpay the mounting surfaces cause there can not be build up there or it won't bolt back on, anybody see any other cons I'm not thinking about? I never did weld off road light tabs on it, this gives me the option of doing that now then having it coated. Or I was going to machine billet Aluminum tube clamps with welded tabs on them for off road lights. Either way does not really matter to me.

I'm looking for pro's & con's and openions either way, then I will decide. Hoby called my burb "The White Rino" so that won't apply anymore I guess, but thats something I can live with :D.

me personally would buy some al's liner and do it myself. as much money as line-x will want to do that im not sure it would be worth it???

How much more would it weigh?

Very very little. The bumper is not actually that heavy either. I know it looks like it is but I can pick it up and install it myself and I'm only a buck fifty five.

In retrospect, I guess rhinos are not svelte little creatures, so what's an extra pound or two?

Let me clarify that a bit. To get it off the truck I have to get my upper body inside the stinger and leverage the bumper on my thighs and step back a few steps and set down by bending over holding onto the truck. It eventually touches the ground enough to take the weight off me. It's NOT easy. I have to repete that backwards to install it. I doubt it does my bad back any good but you know the saying. If there's a will there's a way and will I have. :D

Well then what the heck, go for it. I have seen a few that were coated and they looked pretty sweet.

:haha:I bet that could be down right fun to watch!

And my vote for the bedliner on bumper is neah.

My bumpers hit crap. they get scratched and dinged. Paint is easy to get dirt off of. Bedliner is not. Almost anything is going to need finish work after getting welded or repaired, but it would be a nightmare with the liner. And then you have to touch up the liner.

I will only use the rustoleum hammered paint on my wheels and bumpers. It hides scratches, dings, and runs/ drips very well. and you can paint right over rust if you want to. Colors are limited, and the black looks terrible, but bronze and grey and silver are fantastic. If I get rock rash on someting I can spray right over it. You can hardly tell.

I guess I could hit the small rust spots with good quality permanant rust inhibitor like Eastwoods stuff, I have some too. Then just rattle can it white still or whatever color I want. Thinking about the whole Drab green thing for the burb. Has that just been done to death? I DON'T want my burb to end up like my K5, the never ending project. It runs but the motor is hurt. But I have a 454 I can put in it. Still undecided if it will go in the K5 or not. If I drab it then the bumper will be black or drab too.

i had mine pc'd satin blabk and jus use the gm black touch up paint for my truck on it whenever i notice ive scuffed it...i have sum unused als liner w/gun and all...its brown tho, i think...lol

...my bad, its tan

I would take it back to the powder coater and have them redo the job for you. A quality PC job should never rust through.

did you build that or buy it, and where can I get one when I'm ready! That is a bad ass bumper.

I would think you can't weld powder coated metal either, unless you take a wire wheel to it the same as you would a Line-x'd part......

Line-X would give traction to stand on or grip if need be. That I do like.

Thanks, this one I built.

Line-X doesn't give any traction. Before I started my business I had Line-X in the bed of my truck. I jumped in the bed once and majorly busted my ass. :haha:

I'd keep the powder coating and either touch it up with paint or have it repaired by the coater.
