MaxPF
1/2 ton status
As you all undoubtedly know I am slowly building the 6.x diesel from hell. My intent was to have it in place before my truck came due for emissions, since making the 350 gasser emissions-passable again would cost some $$$ which I don't want to spend on an engine slated for retirement.
Well, emissions time is upon me, and the Super 6.x is still months away from completion. However, fate has smiled upon me. My roommate, Jason4x4, bought a 1 ton chassis cab for cheap for the D60 front. However, this particular truck also happens to have a 165HP 6.2, TH400, and NP205, and it appears the entire truck has less than 50k original miles
.
It didn't run... some troubleshooting found the problem: mice had eaten a 2 inch section of the fuel line between the firewall filter and the IP. After replacement of the line, purging of air from the injector lines, and some cranking, she fired up. She smoked a bit, but it cleared up in a couple seconds and there she purred. We shut it off, and it restarted immediately and easily, despite the junk non-28MT starter. We let it idle for a while, and it didn't blow water everywhere or otherwise seem broken...
So, after a bit of wheeling and dealing it is now mine. Basically, I traded this:
for this:
The first pic is the TBI 350 that we just yanked out of my truck. The above pic is the donor 6.2.
Here's some more pics, including the IP valley full of mouse turds and fir
So, the plan is to finish swapping this motor in and get it running. I will mostly just re-use my gasser exhaust. Soem minor plumbing and a few trivial fuel system changes should get it going. I will need to change the governor in my 4L60 to get the shift points in the proper location.
Once done, I can take it to the emissions ref station and have it officially titled as a diesel. Then, when my project motor is complete it will be a simple matter to pluck this motor out and plug that one in. The only thing I will have to change at that point is the exhaust, which is really no big deal.
So, in short, I will officially be driving a diesel Blazer here in a week or two. Tomorrow morning I hope to get the donor cleaned up and the harmonic balancer changed (it looks a bit questionable, and I have a new one just sitting around
). Then I can drop it in in the afternoon.
I also got the big diesel radiator, and I have the hydroboost I got with my other motor, so there isn't much I have to buy.
Wish me luck!

He hands me a wad of wires and sez: "Here's the stuff you need"
