Heavy Half 91 Burb build

Nice looking truck...:waytogo:

:D Thanks to Wyomingboy, I just got a bunch of CFM stuff in the mail today  I got a spacer, pressure regulator, salad bowl and some more generous odds and end from him for an excellent price!

I also picked up a Thrush 2 chamber muffler last week I'm hoping to get installed this weekend. Got a lot of work ahead of me this weekend to get it all installed. If drinking beer and wrenching is called work ???

Just a little update if anyone is interested.

I just noticed looking at my sig pic that my Suburban is about half as long as my trailer park home. Isn't there a Redneck joke about that somewhere?? :haha:

Wow, I just found this thread. Nice burb, I love the center console. I'm planning on making one similar for mine. What is the ultimate TBI mods you mentioned? Is there a link? I have done the spacer and salad bowl. I hope to do the pod spacer and adjustable or vacuum regulator sometime soon.

I did the thrush 2 chamber muffler on mine with no cat and it sounds nice:waytogo:. Theres vids of how it sounds (the vids are kinda crappy) in my build thread in my sig. should be around the last 5 pages or so.

Keep it up its a sweet burb, and I'm subscribed:thumb:

When you use the living room to measure for a roof rack for your truck, you might be a redneck! :haha:

Thanks Shady, the ultimate TBI mods are pretty simple and free. First I smoothed out the ridge around each boar and made it flush. The second one, I just grinded down the butterfly shafts to allow more airflow at WOT. Here are some links.

Have fun!

Oh yea Shady, I saw your video and that is the reason I went with the Thrush two chamber, yours sounds sweet. Mine will be single 3 inch though.

mine is a single 3":waytogo:

Good, I thought you had duals. Anyway, did you cut and bend a piece of 3 inch where you replaced your cat or was it just a straight piece? I have a band saw so cutting is no big deal, just not sure if I will need it bent.

heres a couple pics, it was all straight.

Good deal and thanks for the pics Shady! Should be a piece of cake getting it installed. You think I should do the exhaust first or the intake mods?

you should be able to do both in the same day, they dont take real long. Both made a differance too. I need to get an adjustable regulator for mine then I'll do those ultimate tbi mods, thanks for the link:thumb: You'll be pretty happy with the spacer and salad bowl.

I got my Thrush muffler on this weekend and it sounds great. I also took my cat in to recycle it and got $50 for it, bout paid for my exhaust. Was $50 a good price, or did I get screwed? The cat on that thing was a beast, probably weighed 30-40 pounds.

I dont know if ya got screwed but I gotta take mine in yet too. They are huge aint they. I'll see what I get. Notice any acceleration improvement? mine seemed to get a little better

Actually, yes! It does seem to have more power but I'm sure the muscle car sound has some to do with it also. It is breathing a lot better now with better throttle response to boot. Still need to get the CFM mods on now and would really like to get a nice set of headers in the future. Aug 14th I'm going to go pick up my new axles so I'll be going from 3.73 to 4.10's, that will really make it feel like it has some low end torque.

Just from the few things and I've done since the day I got it, it is like night and day. At first it would almost die at a stop light idling in gear and barley had enough power to move it's self, now I'm half tempted to pull my camper this weekend with it. Just wish I had the AC working though.

Took the burb out on the maiden voyage this weekend camping. Pulled the camper (about 5500 lbs loaded with water) about 90 miles round trip and burned a quarter tank. Not to bad I think, I tried to fill it up so I could figure out my MPG's but the damn pump shut off at $105 - I still had about 2 gallons to go :doah:

Question, it towed fine doin about 60 then all the sudden my 4wd light came on and I lost a ton of power? I pulled over and actually engaged the transfer case then disengaged it, light went off but still no power. I limped the last 10 or so miles doing 45 with it to the floor .

Two days later, hook back up and do 65 no problem all the way home and still had to let off the gas a bit, she really wanted to go! :eek1: You think it had something to do with the computer? Seemed like the engine just came alive for no apparent reason. I did add the salad bowl from CFM the night before I left and didn't unhook the battery but that's about it.

Wow thats a new one, never heard of that. I'd definitely like to know what it was when you figure it out.

Got a few more projects for this weekend. Picked up an XJ shaft from a 91 last night and ordered the sway bar disconnect kit from Off Road Design with new sway bar bushings. Been driving the Burb with the sway bar disconnected since I put the lift on, it will be nice to have it on when pulling the camper and take it off easily when its not needed.

i ditched my sway bar shortly after lifting my sub back when i used to DD it. never towed with it and never had a problem. did notice quite a difference when i inboarded the rear shocks though.

Pulling the camper, it did seem a touch squirrely at times and I just attributed that to having no front sway bar. The front is pretty stiff so I have just left it off and didn't think of reconnecting after hooking up the camper. I know on my Tacoma when I ditch the sway bar to go wheeling it is down right scary driving down the highway on a curvy road but it will give me an extra inch or so of travel which helps off road. I've got some pretty stiff Sway Away's on that thing too.
