Heavy Half 91 Burb build

man thats an AWESOME idea for the vents. damn things are floppy as hell in my Suburban. i might have to steal that idea.

I'd hate not being able to direct or change the airflow.

Take the dash apart, remove vents, put sticky felt pads on either side of vent opening in rear, to provide some resistance to the movement of the vent.

Good as new!

Yea, I noticed the felt was worn down to nuthin when I pulled the vents, but I also just don't like chrome vents...

I notice in your sig you are awaiting the right deal on a 6.0L, too bad your not closer to Billings. I found one on Craigslist with 20K and they only wanted $750 for a rolled whole truck. Wish I had a shop, I'd be all over it.

Wow. at that price, it might be worth shipping the whole damn thing....

Gesh, good to be back. I let my subscription run out and finally re-uped for another year.

Got some things done in the past month.

-Heated 02 Sensor

-extra fuse box under the hood

-Finally got my adjustable fuel pressure regulator installed and set it to 14psi. Best this thing has ran since I've owned it.

It finally Idles good now. After changing sensors and fuel filters and just trying to hunt down the problem, I think just running 2 bottles of chevron injection cleaner through it solved the problem. :thumb:

I'll get some pics up later of my home made fuse box. Actually turned out pretty good.

Hey, good to see you back! It's weird, but Monday I was going down 27th and I started wondering if everything was ok since we hadn't seen you on here for awhile. We still have to meet up one of these days and tip a few skyward and shoot the shat.

BTW, how's that Auto Zone?

We will have to "Tip a few skyward" :haha:

Everything is going great. My daughter is now completely done with her chemo treatments so were pretty happy about that!

The Auto Zone so far is kind of a joke but I'm sure it will get better. I went in there a few weeks ago to get a grease zerk for my U-joint that had broke off and the guy had no idea what one was, he kept trying to sell me a new U-joint.

I have a little extra cash right now and have been searching Craigslist like mad to find some 3/4 ton axles but have not had any luck local. If you now of some with 4.10 or 4.56's let me know.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for axles. Wish I could get some myself. There was a guy on C.L. who had a 6 lug 14 bolt out of a 91 C2500 pick-em-up for $50. I was gonna get it, but I just couldn't quite pull the trigger since it was 4.10 gears and my gears are 3.73. Time and effort to swap gears is a little too much right now.

Good deal about your little girl. :waytogo: Debb and I are praying that when Rebekah is born 25 Sept. that all goes well. Sick kids just hit you square in the gut and buckle your knees.

Finally! I talked to one of my relatives yesterday and he found me a matching set of 3/4 tons with 4.10's. $125 per axle if I pull them. I might head over to Glendive Saturday and get them. There are 2 trucks, one is a 77 and one is a 75, I can pick which one.

Anyone know of a good kit with seals and bearings for a 44 and 14 FF? Just any parts store or somewhere online?

Got the axles home on Sunday. Just what the guy said, 44 and 14bff with 4.10's. I pulled the cover off the 14 bolt last night and got it all cleaned up. Everything looks good, now for the front tonight. It was fun getting that beast out of the trailer by myself.

He even let me keep the wheels and tires. 235/85/16 Goodyear Work horse with 50% tread.

Here are some pics that I promised.

14BFF and Dana 44 out of a 77 3/4 Chevy. I cleaned them up and drained the fluid on them. The front had some water in it and some surface rust in some of it but I think it will be fine. The ring and pinion look perfect.

Got some decent tires and wheels with it too. Manufacture date was 2007 so I can get some use out of them. I plan on putting my tires off of my Tacoma on the Burb when I can afford new ones. They are 255/85's (33x10) tall and skinny's.

They are still about 65% on the Toyota.

And here is some other stuff I got done in the last few months. Home Brewed fuse panel under the hood. I just have my heated O2 hooked up to it now.

Can someone tell me if this weld is from the factory? I noticed it when I was cleaning it. It is connecting the two plug welds.

Still had the diff tag too. I don't think the fluid was ever changed on this thing.

Looks good. I'd check the load rating on those tacoma tires before you throw them under the burb though.

There 10 ply load range E or D, Can't remember for sure right now. I know they have a higher load rating than the 31's I have on the Burb right now.

Good work, then you are all set! Most people end up with P or C tires on Tacomas.

And remember, the rating letter doesn't always give you the right idea. The Load Range D 33x12.50 BFG's on my burb have a higher load rating than the stock 235/85 Load Range E's, so its always worth checking the numbers.

Like when my last 3/4 ton burb showed up wearing BRAND NEW p rated tires. :doah:

Dh, did you go through your axles before you put them in? If so, can you recommend a good bearing and seal kit for them? I have an auto zone about 100 yards "as the crow flies" from me but they seem very incompetent. My latest stop there the one dude didn't know what PB Blaster was... We have Oreilly's, Napa, Carquest. Anyone have an opinion?

Mine is a long story. I didn't go through the front, but reused my outers, where most of the crucial parts are. In your case, swapping from 6 lug to 8 lug, you'll need to use the new outers. For a truck that will be driven on the street, i'd replace all outer related stuff. Hub/Rotor, caliper, brake pads, bearings, seals, ball joints. It'll cost you, but might as well do it when its on the ground, rather than when you need to drive the truck.

Didn't go through the rear, and ended up paying to get it re-setup up when the pinion seal had to be replaced. That $800 killed any savings by swapping axles. I DID go through all the 14ff brakes though, and replaced wheel cylinders as cheap insurance. If the shoes have decent life, leave them. Just take the brakes apart and clean it all up and lube it all. 14FF brake shoes are essentially 100,000 mile shoes, so if they are half life remaining....no need to swap.

Also, be aware that the older backing plates for the e brakes are a different style than your 91 ebrakes. I found a newer style (late 80's) 14ff to solve this problem, as i didn't want to mess with the backing plate swap, as there are many variations.

In terms of parts houses, stay away from autozone and oreilly's like the plague. Autozone is the WORST< but oreilly's has been giving them some great competition for that title since the switch over from kragen. You'll pay at napa, but its worth it in quality. Truthfully, i'd find what you want, and order it all somewhere online. I'd check rockauto first, and see if you can get the brands you want.

Good luck!

So far I've put new 31" tires on it, new shocks, CD player, refinished the wood console (I should have taken some before pics of it) and Ruff Country add a leafs on all 4 corners. Here are some more pics.

Are those the Monroe Sensa-trac Load adjusting Shocks? If so how do they ride on the highway? Have you had it loaded down? had well do they react to the weight?
