Hedman Elite Header Review

Well Scott I decided to just have the parts pulled at work and check for myself and they will fit! I pulled a pair of Hedman 69830 headers (which I have on my K5) and one of the TrickFlow angle-plug aluminum cylinder heads I planned to order. I also had a shorty spark plug pulled for good measure.

I mocked it all up and everything fits easily. I'm going from 76cc heads to 56cc combustion chamber heads along with a new intake and carb. So I should see some significant performance gain. I can't wait for winter to be over already.

Well now you should be able to buy those Trick flow heads alot cheaper since they can't be sold AS NEW now that you've test fit some headers to them. :D

Also, your compression is going to go up 2 points +/- going from 76cc to 56cc heads.

Hola!

Just an FYI, Hedman now makes the 69830 in stainless (can't recall the part number, but think it ends the same), for people like me who want things to last longer than we'll be alive.

After reading this thread I am mucho confused.

Would the 69830's/62230's fit my truck with no issues? If I get them what modifications, if any, have to be made?

Thanks

I went over this thread again. I haven't had anyone confirm that the 69830/62230 header will work with the 700R4 linkage. I think the reason they list the 69890/69090 for '82-'91 is because of the 700R4 transmission (700R4 was introduced in '82). I know NEK5 (Ben) has run 69830s in his '80s rig, pm him and see if he has a 700R4.

It seems everyone who has a small block coupled to either the SM465 or a TH350 in any model year rig has had great results with 69830/62230.

Ive got a 700r4 with the 69230s and I dont have any linkage issues. Im running a 6" pro comp lift right now too. Soon that will be changed to 52s in front and crossover/hi steer though.

lak2004, do you have a side view pic of your setup? My unknown brand headers rusted out on me this past week so I am now in the header shopping business. I was cruising thru this thread and a couple of others the other day and am looking at getting the 69230s.

I have the 69830's, with a tbi 350/700r4 combo. Works fine, you have to bend the drivers side exhaust tube around the linkage and I added my o2 sensor right there, but it fits.

Ill try to get a few tomorrow

I have 69830's and it fits the turbo 400/205 combo. Has B&M floor shift. Great fit. Had to trim the upper shackle bolt length. At 5 years old I had them sandblasted as they were rusting. The ceramic coating was on its way out. VHT silver looking good after 5000 or so miles so far.

I know ceramic is good on these, but like you said it goes wears away. Is there some sort of permanent solution to preventing them from rusting out? Like some sort of high temp etching primer, or something that adds chromium on a molecular level, plus paint?

I hear some send them to JET coatings, but how long does that last?

from everything I've heard, none of the manufacturers ceramic coatings hold a candle to Jethot... pretty certain i'm gonna send my headers and y-pipe out for their extreme sterling coating.... it was $375 for headers...

If my truck had the motor in it, id snap a pic, but right now the motor is out. When its all back together, ill snap a pic.
