For those looking for cheaper headers, Hedman part number 69230 is physically the same header at half the price. The flange is thinner and its painted (which is a PITA).

I hate that header companies paint their headers with regular paint that will burn off in the first couple minutes of operation, they could just as easily paint them with high temp stuff.

Anyway, I stripped off all the paint that was on them and repainted them with spray paint meant for a BBQ grill, something like this. It has worked well on previous headers I have had.

Here's what the 69230's look like, they clear my mechanical clutch linkage just fine and tuck up much closer to the body than my previous headers (which also keeps the headers clear of the shackle bolts).

What did you strip them with? And with the smaller flange have you had any sealing problems? How thave the held up? Still like them? I'm strongly considering these because I hope to the 6.0 lq9 swap next summer

They're still going good and I'm still happy with them. I haven't had any sealing problems with them at all.

anyone running these headers with the fush mount moved forward and 52s? Also how easy is it get spark plugs in and out? Header bolts all have to be done by wrench or can you use a socket and rachet for all the bolts?

I'm running dodge 52's, pushed as as far forward as possible. Only two plugs need a wrench, 5 & 6 I believe. 2 header bolts on each side need a wrench as well.

I was wondering who dug this up .......Some old names popped up I haven't seen in a long time.....Even your boy Chas.:D

I have a set of Headmans ( Part#69230 ) I bought back in 2000 ( That cost me a whole $109 :D )are still going strong. I'm starting to wonder how much longer their going to last....I started it up today to move it and a lot of condensation came out....Propane has a tendency to do that and I started to wonder how much longer the whole exhaust system has before it rots from the inside out.
I never coated them, painted or wrapped them.

To answer your question.....I have no idea. :D

as usuall no help :D

you have your shackle mount moved forward as well right?

The ball portion of the joint on mine seems to have been "compressed" due to excessive/repeated tightening on my part (mine kept losing collector bolts). It's not a fault of the headers as far as I'm concerned.

I should have just tack welded the nuts to the bolts when I initially put it together.

I just double-nut the bolts. Works fine until the engine is toast and runs like a Harley with a misfire. Then I think it just stretches the bolts or bends the flanges :doah:

The only downside is they are harder to install because they are packaged tighter. Hooker, Flowtec, the longer Hedmans all basically slide right in. But these shorter Hedmans are a pretty tight fit and I had to remove my starter and brace too. But it's worth it to have them tucked out of the way.
