Hello old friends. 1980 step side build.

Keep the 1980 V22 grille, it is unique.

The rally wheels will look a lot better on there than the current wheels.

TH350 I assume?

What gears?

Martin

350/350/205. 10 bolt front 12 bolt rear. 3.08 gears (boo).

Got my first box out of 4 from ORD.

Shocks, u-Bolts, drop pitman and of course the ORD sticker.

It's really sucks having boxes of parts and being able to do nothing until everything is here.

I did do a little poking around the front end today at work and something going on inside the hubs. Driver side real stubborn and leaking at the seal by the u-joint. So add that to the list.

Nothing wrong with it (did you see the thumbs-up?). I just find it slightly humorous that half the comments (so far) have referenced the stepside bed, and they're all from the 3 guys that have stepside trucks. I think we're the only ones who care about stepside beds. Kinda went through the same thing in Adam's thread a while back. :dunno:

In any case, welcome (back) to the stepside club! [emoji14]opcorn:

Haha I guess that's kinda funny. Hooray for stepsides!
I fully agree, I think the 80 grill is just weird...

Love the truck though (from another stepper)
I also agree ^^^

I dunno yet. I may just regear it myself if I can't find a good shop locally. I've done it before but never real confident. Looks like I may open up the front end anyway for some maintenance. Not sure if I want 4.10 or 4.56 either.

How much offroading are you really going to do? With those short of tires and no overdrive, I would go 3.73 or 4.10.

Well my go to joke is that automatics are for women, but . . . . . . . . .

Haha that's funny

You said 35" tires right? If so go 4.56 with the intention of going NV4500.

Nice looking truck. I can't wait to see it with the new stance:popcorn:

Having regrets?
With what? 4.10s, 35s, and the NV4500? It works fine in that combo but I do wish that I had a hair more gear. I think 4.56s would be ideal with my combo but cost wise it doesn't make sense for me to regear.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Makes sense, I just wondered if you really had an issue with that much horsepower and the 5 speed.
Nope no problems at all. My only problem was in sand dunes it popped out of 2nd twice on me on test hill. I'm writing that off though as a fluke caused by the sever bouncing that the truck was doing.

My recommendation is get a '95 or newer NV4500. They have a bolt on shifter assembly and it allows you to bolt on a short throw shifter.

So I finally had some free time to roll around underneath the truck. Found a booger welded frame fix at the pass read shock mount.

And new u-joint for the rear.

Should be getting another box this week so I can start on the lift.

Came home to box number 3

Gonna be a fun weekend. Patience is not a virtue I have for the front ORD springs
