While the Allison is a great trans. An 8.1 with ZF 6 speed would be epic!
Randomly stumbled across this 8.1L article, no idea if it's good info or not.

Yup... but when i take it out i do it right!!!Your truck's been a driveway queen for the past 8 years sooo......
I've got an LS swap. Now that my sled has gained the aerodynamics of a barn door, I find myself wishing for more power. Sure, it can be made with a turbo or blower on the high end, or more tuning, cam and other bolt ons. But no matter what I do it won't make power down below 2,000 rpm's like a big block would. I've experienced 8.1's first hand from my days with Workhorse and of course Larry's 8.1 powered rides.
@ZooMad75 do you think the 6.0ls would be better or a big block based on your experience? I'm in mid build of my one ton truck(4.56 gears and 37s) and am rethinking engine choices. Have a 5.3 that was recammed(not tuned yet), but was thinking that the down low torque of a big block would be better for the size/weight of the rig. Thanks
