I bought this truck yesterday for 500.00 minus the wheels and tires. It has 182k on it with a 6.5 TD rebuilt 70k ago also a blown auto tranny and 10 lug 19.5 wheels. What is the rear end in this thing? Also I plan on putting the engine in my CUCV then parting the rest. Is the auto a standalone controller and is it worth anything? I will get some better pictures when I get it home. I'm thinking to pull the engine, tranny & controller and the rear end then scrap the rest, is there anything else of value thats worth my time to pull?

A picture of the actual rear end would probably be helpful....

Like I already wrote I'll get some better pictures when I get it home. I was thinking these extreme duty trucks probably all had the same rear end.

Well, now wait, the first picture tells us something.
Its kinda roundish on the bottom, and its a full floater.
So, its probably a truck rear end as opposed to, say, a Geo Metro. So we can narrow it down that much.

Actually, given the title of the post, I was just glad to see a truck when I clicked on the thread......

that 3500hd is worth a lot more than 500 bucks.

i have seen and heard of just the front axle in good shape go for about 1k bucks.

thay are a tank of a truck at 15k gvw. i would resell it and take the cash and buy a new motor and extra goodys.

if i recall the 3500 hd has a kind of funny dana 80 rear end. i say funny as to the way the axles are held in the rear wheel hubs.

i wish i could have got that truck for 500 bucks here. that would be resold for prob 2-3 grand and have a dump box on it and making lots of cash.

The truck is only 2wd and I can't imagine the front axle is worth so much???
The guy was asking 750.00 and wouldn't budge so I offered him 500.00 without the wheels and tires and got it, he seemed to think the tires and wheels are worth more than the truck. The engine appears to be in good shape and is a one owner truck so I feel comfortable buying it at his word on the rebuild.
It would be hard to find this deal again so it will definetly go in my cucv truggy:D the extra 40hp and 100 tq will be appericated greatly:D I also feel good about recovering my $$ in the whole deal plus I will sell my low mile 6.2 with it running in the truck so I can get top dollar:DI should be picking it up tomorrow night if the weather cooperates:D

If it's a C3500HD it should have a leaf-sprung solid front axle, right?

Could you please snap some pictures of that as well when you get it home.
I'm a little interested in how the springs are mounted.

The rear end according to the vin is a 11.5 Dana with 5.13 gears and disc brakes.
What is a 11.5 dana?
It has an e-brake behind the tranny that appears stock:D
I got the truck here so I'll get some pictures sometime today.

I still say D80 although the ring gear is 11.25", not 11.5".

The D80 cover looks similar to the average D60 or D70 cover except it looks like you stretched it top to bottom.

Edit: if it is the D80 I believe the version used in the HD trucks was 37 spline which makes it a wee bit odd when compared to others.
