Help me INSTALL a big block...Bought a 468!

Completely stole the entire idea from AJ. It's a couple hours worth of fabbing, but pretty easy.

I can handle that. Hopefully I can get to this swap before my buddy's wife has their first kid... Otherwise I'll be rocking out in his garage while he's inside changing poopy diapers:doah: I'm hoping I will have everything ready to rock and roll in two weeks, which should put me 3-4 weeks before the kid is due. We'll see how that plan works out:D

Here's one for you guys. I need to go measure my fuel line that's on the truck now. If I need to run a larger line, can I just get -AN hose or do I need to run a hard line most of the way up? I think I already know the answer, but the alternative sounds so much easier and less expensive.

one day I'll run the carbon fibers.. they just look so cool...

I'm not sure I could pull off the CF ones in my rig, nothing else is nice enough...

I'm digging the plain polished fabricated ones. Thinking I may go that way.

You should use what is called push loc hose. I used it for the whole fuel system, it is NHRA approved. If you are using an electric pump I like to go 10 to the pump, 8 out to the reg and dual 6s to the carb.

I'll look into that. Should I use an electric pump? I was thinking a nice mechanical pump for now until I go to EFI down the road and do an in-tank pump. I'm all ears if I should do electric though. I have the extra wires that came with my harness to run and electric pump, so it's not a huge deal to do so if it'd be better.

A good mech will work. I would use a 6 piston pump but I am not sure it will fit on yours.

push-lok is an excellent cheaper alternative to AN stuff.. we run it on tons of stuff in boats... it does have it's psi limitations tho, use accordingly...

I have a set of these I bought off of Ebay for about $65 or so. Mine fit great and I love the polished aluminum look. I ended up getting the valve covers, a timing cover and an air cleaner (all separately) all from Ebay for under $150.

Sean the fuel line supplied w/ the ez efi is -6
The outlet of the 600hp pump has only a .250 outlet IIRC the pressure supplies by that pump is enough to overcome the smaller line size
For a carbed electric pump system (less pressure) its more common to use -8 or even -10 to supply the regulator the -6 dual lines to the holley

if it wasnt already said time for new motor mounts . the stock rubbers suck in stock form if you ask me.

get some energy suspension replacments if still keeping clam shell. or diy4x mount kit . best money you spend for control of the motor and how it sits and flex's in the frame.

and swap the tcase mount also and be done with it all at 1 time.

also check the header listings in some of the threads in here for the ones with clear the front shackles for best fit and fuction . if you plan on headers.

i use to have a built 400sbc and my friend had stock rv engine 454 . we both had 1/2 ton frames. 38" tires and th350 trannys. he had 4.56 and i had 4.10 . he got me out of the hole all the time . but i could pass him wonce i got wound up .

the point is you cant beat the tourqe off the line in the bottom of a bbc burnout

Yep, got Kert's crossmember already, and already ordered taller risers(?) from him to clear the frame. Mike and AJ have helped with planning the fitment for me. I even have a part # for headers that fit. :waytogo:

I think for cost, right now I'm going to run a healthy mechanical fuel pump with the carb and down the road get a fuel cell with in tank pump and run some efi.

Care to shed some light on a good combo of pump/regulator that I should be able to use for that? Remember, I'm (almost) never going to wind this thing up past 4-5k, so if I'm slightly under supplied I don't think it'll be the end of the world. Probably keep it rubber side down to be honest :D

Somebody tell me if I should pull the trigger on this. Seems like a great deal compared to summit's prices. I bought the valve covers from these same people...didn't think to look at the rest of their stuff the other night.:doah:

seems way to cheap to me???? says its MSD stuff, but that is below wholesale for that setup?

The distributor alone is worth the 260$???

I'm running the same street fire box on the Maiden and paid over $100 for it alone.

I know, that's why I'm itching to find out if I should buy it???:dunno:

I don't understand why your current HEI won't fit.

Martin

Mike recommended a small cap because the big block makes the firewall clearance pretty tight, so I just wanted to make it easier on myself in the future. If that's completely unnecessary I'll run an HEI. I'll still probably get a new one because the one in the truck now could use a "freshening up".
