Help need good 38" tire for street DD vehicle!!

That looks like a Dana 60 front and a Corp 14FF rear to me.

I have the Michelin 11.00R16 XL's mentioned before and they work great. Love them. Kinda narrow though. You might be able to find some of the newer size the Marine Corps uses now...325/85R16 I think it is. Same 38" height but wider.

I also had a set of the Interco TrXus MT's on my Ranger and they wore great and were excellent all year round including in northern Michigan winters.

here is the truck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D130214198764%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=130214198764

I worked out a much lower price than the buy it now with the seller and other than the seller misrepresenting the super great body and paint condition (grumble ... well see what happens there) the thing seems pretty solid .. hopefully i did well
Please tell me you have removed the "BUBBA" letters on the tailgate window!

Other than that, looks like a nice truck. :waytogo:

:haha:so funny you said that i work at a car dealership first thing i did was tell one of the detailers to scrape that off lol!

I have been running toyo mt's (38x14.50r16) for about a year and a half now. Untill about 3 weeks ago the blazer was my DD/weekend warrior but now she is strictly a toy. I loved them on the street. They balanced very easy, were IMO more quiet than a typical MT and did not wear much. With about 10 LBs. of air in them, they seem to hook up pretty good on the rocks as well. For a combination tire it is hard to beat.

I'm running 38x15.50 Baja Claw Radials and I'm very pleased with how they've been driving on the street. Don't know how they last cuz I've got about 3-4K on the tires now, but I think they'll hold up pretty well. Surprisingly quiet,I was expecting more noise out of them.

The bias ply's are uber loud... I run the 38.5/16-15 baja claws and like your experience they are surprisingly good on the road but they're really loud.

have u had them long? hows highyway, wear, ect ect

They are nice on the highway. Smooth and quiet. I haven't had them very long, so I can't tell you how they wear. They are supposed to be a "40,000 mile" tire, like BFG All Terrains. I had 33" Mud Kings before these, and after changing to the 37" FC II's my mileage has actually increased. I figure it is due to my effective gearing being a better match to the engine and the lower rolling friction. It certainly isn't due to reduced weight - my tire/wheel combo weighs in at 120lbs each :eek1:

Why would you even need 38" for a street vehicle? You'd get plenty enough ground clearance for those pesky curbs with, say, 33" - and a lower center of gravity to boot, which you will be grateful for when one day you take that street corner at a little too high a speed. (Or if you won't, at least the guy coming around from the other direction will).

Some people like myself think 33s are lame, just like you do 38s, I know I get better milage with a 40" tire than a 35" tire because I am running 4.56 gears. bigger tire will lower cruising rpms.

Plus I am one of those guys that likes the huge trucks that turns every ones heads. Plus its always worth a smile when I go to pick up my daughter from school and all the kids are yelling "look at the monster truck"

As far ass the high center of gravity and tipping over. there are no worries if you dont drive like an assbag.

You will get that mileage out of them no sweat if you rotate them. We ran some (35's) on a 04 f250 and we got over 40K out of them and we should have rotated them more often. They were louder than my toyos though, thats about the only complaint but it wasnt all that bad.

To answer your question bluntly i dont need 38''s i want them. Make no mistake ill be wheeling this rig but 95% of its life will be spent on the street. Ill be throwing some coin into this rig make no mistake it will drive great on the road and it will be safe i wont build it any other way.

Ive always wanted one of theese rigs and im not the kinda guy that can just let it sit around till the weekend :D

Ohh update on the wheels and tires i went with the toyo open country mts 38 x 15.5 x 18 should look sick thanks for the help guys! Heres the wheels http://www.wheelpros.com/downloads/highres/424/DI17K_Blk.jpg

i have bias ply iroks in a 37"...close enough

they are $210 a piece for a 37x14x16 tire and i thought that is good enough..

anyways, in the snow they are pretty good, they aren't any tank tracks but they are good..

mud they are really good

rocks, idk and idc

street they are really good

highway is amazing..i had 35x12x15 thornbirds that came on it years ago when i bought it and the 37"s are literally 10 times better then with the thornbirds.

Mine came with 38.5 x 14.5 x15 thornbirds on it. They are so awful i cant even describe it it rides so terribad.

the 38' look like they belong on this truck however i guess 37 wouldnt make much of a difference really ... so why 37 over 38 im curious now :p

Radials tend to run small, while Bias plys tend to be at the advertised height. Or at least Intercos do. So a 38" swamper will be at least 2" taller than most radial 37's. They exact sizes vary by brand, but it's something to be aware of and look into.

I had 35x14.5 SSR's. They were good at first but after they got some miles the traction sucked, they got really loud, and rode bad.

Now I have 38x15.5 TSL/Radials. I have about 8k on them and they are still relatively quiet (a little louder than the SSR's, of course I now have flowmaster 44's dumped in front of the rear tires so I dont hear them anymore), have pretty good wet weather traction, good offroad traction, and as far as street manners go, I think the suspension limits cornering speeds more than the tires do.

Just got the tires and wheels :p they weigh a freaking ton ill have em on soon!
