help with body mount

Weird, how is the fender lining up with the hood lines?
Is that an aftermarket door?

rest of the jam looks real good.....this is a door i bought from a guy of craigslit. i was there when he took it off a 72 blazer. Still dont know if it was original or not.

this is so frustrating.

this just bites!

i have 5 shims at fire wall 2 shims at back of door. the door lines are great but the pillar area is still terrible. could my door be bent? the wind wing fit just fine. Im sooooooooooooo frustrated.

I actually have had the same problem on mine just not quite as bad.

You might try adding more shims at the rear of the door and then adjusting the hinges to match it back up.

How thick are your shims? My two shims are about a total of 1/4" thick, maybe a bit more even.

Edit: are the rubber door seals on there? At least make sure the big rubber portion that gets sandiched between the hard top and the windshield frame is there. That pushes the windshield out a bit and helped mine. You might have to loosen up the fender bolts to get the windshield to push forward along with it.

i cut mine at work on the laser. I used about .100 material which is between 3/32 and 1/8".

rather than asking how many shims you guys used many i should be asking how much in thickness you added. 5 of my shims is only 1/2". 5 of your shims is about 1-1/4.

Yea, a 1/2 inch isn't that out of bounds, but it seems like you should be closer than you are. I assume you don't have a body lift right?

What about my edit above regarding the rubber seals?

3" bodylift.

The other factor i never mentioned is my hard top doesnt fit right. it is way too far out in the back. by bending the pillar forward i will kill 2 birds with one stone. it will help the top go forward as well. id say the top is about 3/8" too far back....but that is a long ways.

Ah, the body lift may throw your calculations off a little, but the hardtop being too far back sounds like more of the culprit.

Like what he said...

Did you try loosening your top and pushing it forward? Could your top be pulling the windshield back?

It sounds like the windshield is stopping the top from coming forward. I think the windshield is layed back. Gaps look nice (except windshield / door frame). It may just take some brute force to bring the windshield frame forward a bit.

lol....so i sat in the drivers seat put my feet on the top of the window frame and started to move the frame when all of a sudden my seat gave out and i broke the seat. My seat is now a recliner, and it wasn't when i started. :eek1:

I have all the gaps almost good now but the bad news is im at about 1" of shims. passenger side is perfect. drivers side is close. i now have the wing window inside the pillar. its just still a little out.

also the top is sitting on 2x4's on the bed of the rig, so its no longer a factor.

Uhhh.....so it was like: "Hey it's moving, alright!" and then....:yikes:.

If you have to do the other side. Wedge yourself against the roll bar or something a bit more solid. Reclining seats....sweeeet.

So we are searching craigslist for seats now? :D :haha:

So lets see what this has cost me.

$120 - body mount
$ 50 - 14" carriage bolts
$ 20 - Still need 1/2-13x at least 9" bolts (fire wall mount)
$??? - broken seat
$ 40 - broken mirror (yes i was slamming the door checking alignment when my brand new mirror came out of the mount and fell to its death)
$ priceless - skin missing from my knuckles

Anyway, yes i broke my seat and my mirror. I'm close enough for now, however i need to take the front clip off and re-do the door hinges and shim the fenders. I have a total of 1.100" (could use a little more) of shim which is rediculous, but thats what it took.

So....remember, if you pull your front clip off, the firewall and windshield frame will relax back to their old position.

was just on the phone with IGOR chatting about that. We were thinking of supporting the top of the windshield area with some 2x4 supports to help keep the sag out. With the way my luck has been going i'll probably shatter the front windshield.
I definatley know its gonna be a problem. I'm sure i still have alot of work ahead of me.

I was gonna say to just bolt the hardtop down and that should support it quite well while you adjust the clip.

But the old adage about "if it aint broke, don't fix it" comes to mind here. :)

ever read what it says at the very bottom of my signature.

If it aint broke....fix it till it is.

i have no choice the front fender has to come off. my driver door need to be set back. I shimmed the striker plate but its too much. the gap in the back of the door is way bigger than the gap in the front.

i do like your hard top idea though.
