Ok my ehaust is royally messed up. so i just am going to start from the exhaust ports back, here are my wants
1. loud as all get out
2. offroad safe
3. performance
4. could care less about looks, i would like it to exit wherever would be safest for offroad ie rocks, mud, trees etc. but want it loud thanks

i really want duals but if a 2.5" single is better for performance thats fine i just want to set off car alarms, i love it when i drive in to town and piss off all the rich people

haha purple hornies header mufflers. they tuck up nice to keep them out of the way and they are pretty loud too. does this vehicle need emissions or inspection? if so forget about the header mufflers

If you want loud run headers with true dual exhaust. I set off car alarms with my other truck with a single splitting two duals.

i have no emissions regs here in the south(ky)

i just dont know if it will sound like crap if i run headers to 2.5" duals dumped after the rear axle

I run headers with 2.5 duals with a Thrush turbo on each pipe with turn downs just before the rear axle....... the only thing that I would say about my setup is that if I had glass packs instead of mufflers I couldn't hear anything after getting out of it,but the motor is not even close to being stock. so if you do run glass packs make sure the pipes "go out" from underneath the body.

im just on the fence about even running mufflers on it. ive gone on youtube to listen but you cant really tell. i may just do straight pipes

Are you gonna run it on the street at all?? If not i say go with badmix's idea.

Myself i'm going with true dual 3" into 30 series Flowmasters on my 83. :D

On my DD though i think i may just go with the single 3" with 1-30 series muffler

it will be mostly street driving. although if im driving along the road and see somewhere to play i usually go for it. i havnt got in trouble yet!

How big O a motor do you have?
Personally I've got two set up's i'm running. one is: a GM350 TBI on my K5 CRAWLER with dual 3" AERO turbine mufflers (no cat)(stock exhaust manifold). It's super loud and super beefy.:D I had to get a bigger sound system so i can hear my music still. :thumb:
The other set up i have on my daily driver GM350 TBI again, with a 3" magnaflow cat and a single 3" Areo. Not quite as loud as my other set up. But is still sounds mean.

I've ran this same set up with a Magnaflow muffler and a Flowmaster muffler (at different times of course). Neither sounded as mean as the Aero. Now i'm not sayin those two brands are total crap. Just personally speaking, comparing sound to sound the aero is LOUDER and more Mean sounding!

These mufflers have a crazy degin that pulls the exhaust out. It's nuts!!! Great sound, and great power.

Screw mufflers. Just run open headers with megaphones.

i have a stock 350tbi, which i really want to rebuild or something. its so slow its not even funny. so what kinda headers should i look at. i will probobly get some headers(used pref) and get the thing that blazinzuk suggested.

Having a loud truck will piss you off....

Don't get me wrong I ran my 383 in my k5 for three months with headers, and straight pipes into flowmaster what had NO exit pipes. Dumped right about where the rear seat started.

Sounded nasty, instantly off idle sounded increadably mean. Set off one or two alarms. But after driving it three months I finished my exhaust. Completely different sound. Good thing too, actually bearable. Can have a conversation while driving (Important on Dates;)) Can hear the radio.

Run headers with some fence post for pipes, Run them into flowmasters and just let them dump. It will be loud and sound healthy, also if you ever get tired of it being loud. Which you WILL, you can put pipes on the back.

Chris

thanks guys. well ive made my mind. im going to do headers into direct dumps. i know it will be loud but having that setup i know i can have future exhaust work done. i have a question though. how do i get the old exhaust hangers off the truck? that are welded to the frame i think

time to piss off the neighbors

I wish I had a sound byte of my truck, thats what I did, I got the cone things cheap off e-bay and headers to straight to some dumps. It really did sound great and it was loud. I had guys ask me all the time how much I had in the motor etc etc. It was a bone stock motor with a bone stock cam only mod was the headers. Kind of funny to me but it did annoy me alot I am glad to have an exhaust on my truck now
