help with exhaust

no i don't. my buddy has them on his truck. supposedly advance even has them in stock. he ordered his for a 76 K10 but a K5 chassis should be the same

thanks buddy. I called auto zone and they have a set of flowtech part #11500 in stock for $109.99.......have you ever heard anything about that brand of headers? i know you get what you pay for but cash is kinda tight right now , i might go pick them up in the morning.thanks for any input , and i apologize for hijacking someone elses thread , but i'm kinda planing on the same type exhaust as he is ...oh, and do you think it will improve bottom end power over the stock manifolds?

i'm gonna go pick them up from autozone first thing in the morning and between then and sunday evening i will provide the results on the fitment or any other problems that occur during installation especially with them being the "cheap" set.............thanks again

thats funny i just had an interview at autozone 2 days ago. i just gotta get my background checked out and im on. now i get discounts. HEHEHE

Def. let us know how those headers go on.! what year model do you have?

mines an 83 i just bought about 6 months ago , it was in pieces , but very little rust , so ive been getting it all back together and doing some mods to it from what the previous owner had(basically stock) 235/75-15 street tires and all.......lol , after the headers i've got to start looking for some real tires, lol!! , and i should be able to find the time to get the headers installed by sunday afternoon , and will let ya'll know about the fitment , i've heard some horror stories about header fitment on the k5 blazers when installing the cheaper ones , so i guess i'll find out this weekend, hopefully it wont be to bad!!

ok Blackk5350 , i did go and purchase those cheapy headers from auto zone! got the drivers side installed ....all i have left to do on that side is modify the power steering pump and a/c brackets that mount on the front exhaust bolt........this side was fairly easy(yeah , i know i tackled the easy side first , lol ) hopefully i will get the passengers side installed in the morning and give you the full details on the installation , i imagine it is going to be somewhat of a pain , with the starter and wiring on that side , but i will have a better idea in the morning , i will keep you posted

i finally got the headers installed , not too much trouble , had to modify the a/c bracket on the drivers side and remove the bracket that bolts to the frame with the rubber bumper on the passengers side! i was going to run a set of thrush glasspacks straight of of the headers but they would not clear the crossmember. so i guess i will try and fab up some exhaust tubing to get the mufflers out behind the tranny crossmember in tommorrow

i just got in from the shop and took a shower!! had to finish up the exhaust!! i ended up going to advance and buying four 45 degree pieces of tubing (2 for each side) to make an "s" shape( for it to pass up and over the crossmember) , two adapters for the header collectors , two 2 foot pieces of pipe and two turndowns , oh and i used two thrush glasspacks!! the turndowns end up about a foot shy of the rear axle!! drove it and it sounded pretty good , i will take some pics for you and post them on here in the morning. oh and i decided to weld mine together instead of using clamps to prevent any exhaust leaks. and i still need to fab up some hangers for it!

sounds good, but my realm of mechanics is not that high yet. i cant weld really so i dont know what to do unless you wanna come help me out. im in college so im short on fundage.

carolinafan4life63, did you get the flowtech afterburners? thats what im looking at and i would deffinately interested in knowing how the worked out for you. i think you can get purple hornies in different lengths that are shorter and might clear the transfer case but im not sure about that

no i didnt get the afterburners , just the cheapie $110.00 ones from autozone , they are flowtech though , every thing seems to be working out fine so far. i ran about two foot of pipe after the glass packs with a turndown on each side , it is much quieter than i thought , though there is a noticable increase in volume whan you get into it hard , i will post some pics but please dont laugh at my welding ability , i am a decent mig welder but all i had at the time was an old ass stick welder and i didnt even remove the slag after welding.....in other words it is not pretty but functional :D oh and it only takes about 5 mins to burn the black paint off of the headers!!i saw a little increase in power , but keep in mind i have a stock 305 with only headers and an edlbrock performer intake.............next up is a cam. maybe you could be so kind as to recomend one that will give me an improvement in power and torque!! well it wont seem to let me post the pics i will try again later

Only worry i have for ya is if the turndown is too close to the rear axle blowing down you may have a heat problem there. If you think it is far enough away that's cool. Justhad a friend that had problems with his rearend shortly after he did the exhaust this way. You may be fine. Just something to look at ;)

Other than that i'd like to see some pics also :D

i have the turndowns about a foot if not more in front of the rearend , hopefully that will be enough , i can always shorten the exhaust some if you think i may end up with problems.............and i will post pics as soon as it will let me ............i have tried 3 or 4 times and it keeps saying my connection timed out .....but i am still connected to the internet , i was trying to post 54 pics at one time , maybe i should try 1 at a time..lol

i am running 2.5 true duel with super 40 flomaster with the pipes coming out before my back tires and i set off alarms and when i pass the rich people my tips are in there face lol

RV style cam with a wide powerband is the way to go for torque IMO, I'm running a Comp Xtreme 4x4 cam in my new 350, it's got great torque right off idle.

im no master with engines but i wanted to try the comp cams 4x4 cam in my K10 until i talked to scott (4x4high). he said there are better grinds out there than that cam. my guess would be to go with an rv cam as mentioned before. good for torque and towing. im actually excited to see how my 305 is going to sound and perform once i get a set of headers and my new exhaust on.
