Help With Ongoing Project

So, putting in a new distributor, should take care of some of the issues. Going to clean the injectors tomorrow.

How does it do in other applications? Ie bikes, etc.

16 oz good enough? Cleans out ethonal?

Use it in anything! 16 oz will treat about 16 gallons according to the label. I'm not sure if it "cures" ethanol in the fuel.

They where out of stock, but I got the distributor. Time to install.

Ok, new distributor is in and it is better, but won't idle, runs rough as ****.

Yes, wire pulled and set at 0.

Do you by chance have a thread or a picture of the correct complete vacum line lay out. I am wondering if I have low vacum or incorrect hook up.

Ok, got the Seafoam tonight. Have not put it in yet. Decided to work on something tonight that I could completely accomplish tonight.

I have to say, this truck is beginning to reach my critical piss off point. There have been so many "are you kidding me" things that I could expect anymore.

So, tonights; went to replace the power window switch on the driver's side. Popped the door panel off, replaced the switch and reinstall the battery cables. Tried the switch.....nothing. Hmmm? Test power to the switch, good. Test the new switch, good. Go to test the motor...motor...motor...were the heck is the motor?

No motor and no track that it rides on. Are you kidding me? Why am I doing this again?

Not trying to be a downer but doing a radical motor swap is only going to add its own problems.

The window thing is a perfect example of guessing compared to proper diagnostics. I would go out on a limb to say the old switch was probably still good.

Sounds like you got a lemon of a truck. That can happen with any vehicle foreign or domestic. Don't judge the breed by one bad seed.

The way I look at these kinds of things is at least when you fix something you know you won't need to worry about it for a while.

Yea, hate to hear that this thing is giving you such a hard fight. But its really tough when you go buy a used truck like this and don't really know the background or long term history.

Hope you'll keep plugging away. At least you're fixing things and getting somewhere with the project!

The switch was physically broken. Was it broken to hide the fact that the motor was gone, I don't know but I am beginning to see a pattern, like the motor. I have no issues with the K5 series of trucks. Right now I own 2. I have owned 11 of them so far. Just all being older than the '87.
I hear you on the once it is fixed. As far as the 5.3 goes, that is simple because I know going into it everything gets replaced. This hunting and pecking for issues is what blows.

Here is the funny thing, I own a '84 also that I bought to do first. I walked away from it and it currently sits out back because the body isn't as nice. But if I would of known the issues I have had with the '87, the '84 would of been running by now.

Should I get the regulator and the motor, or just the motor? Regulator is not bad , but the rollers stick. It appears like the can be pulled apart and cleaned and re-lubed. Is this correct? Honestly, I have never owned a K5 with power windows that hasn't worked decent. I know from what I have read, that is not the norm.

Many people neglect to clean and lubricate the window tracks when they need it. Mine were slow going up, you'd have to grab on and help them up sometimes. Took the panels off and hit the regulator and rollers and tracks with spray white grease and the rubber channels with spray silicone. They go up so fast now you'd think it was a brand new truck.

Going to pick up a window motor tonight. From there I am going break down the rollers and re grease. From there I will need to do the pass side.

Ok, got the new O2 sensor in. Put it in at the collector.

Stills runs rough, but it is obvious why, driver's side injector just pees the fuel where the pass side sprays at all rpms.
