herd of turtles expo build *SOLD*

I bet it has 3.08 axle gears and a good torque converter if it's getting 15 mpg.

I highly doubt he has 3.08's. I've never seen a 3/4 ton axle with them before. Is a 3.08 gear set even available for a 14bsf?

I'll be the voice of the other side. I would ditch the sf and find a 14bff. I don't see a semi floater as an upgrade over a 10 bolt. Just a heavier version.

im guessing they are 3.73 but ill find out this weekend if its not snowing or raining, its been snowing off and on all day and windy. calling for 60 mph gusts tonight.

well she aint pretty but shes stronger and the door works good now. used the welder at work, which is a piece of crap, the drive gears are going out so i basicly had to pull wire out, tack, then pull more wire out.

Subscribed. Nice start for a build imo, but i'm a little biased...

I just recently joined up over at the expedition portal also, and man is my head spinning with ideas...

Thanks, right now its not so a build as it is a maintenance lol

pulled the driveline so i could change out the output shaft seal, ive never seen u-joints this bad that hadnt broke, the bearings were pulverized to dust in a couple.

so i got new u-joints put in, output shaft seal in, pulled the rear diff cover, fluids were pretty good in the axle and found out my gear ratio 4.10 gears kinda shocked me lol.

this is more of a gripe than anything, nobody in this town carries AC Delco platinum plugs, everybody has to order them and one place cant even order them. the dealership is actually cheaper than anyone else here, rock auto here i come. next week ill be installing my plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, all AC Delco.

before i moved here i worked for o'reilly auto and cant even tell you how many set of those plugs i sold.

Not sure I'd bother with the platinums. Just standard old AC Delco plugs seem to work great in these old trucks. But, it's not my truck.

That's weird. I would think those would be a pretty common item. Have you tried the Bosch Platinums? Not the ones with the four electrodes. They foul too easily. I mean just the normal ones.

i had fairly new plugs in my old 78 chevy and when i went to the platinums i gained 2 miles a gallon and it ran so much smoother. i know it could have been an issue with a fouled plug or something with the old ones (6months) in there, but if it did that much better in there i want to run them again. and they are $4.79 a plug from rockauto with a $1.50 mail in rebate a plug.

Friday on my way home from work I look over and notice antifreeze on the passenger floor board. So today I went out and just looped the heater hose and bypassed the heater core. Next month I'm going back home for a visit, I have a mojave style summitt heater sitting my dads shop ill pick up and install that.

Same thing happened to mine a few years back. I did the same thing with heater hose as you did because I never used the heater anyway. Those heater cores are a major pain to replace. Lots of guys on this site are removing the entire HVAC blower thing under the hood completely and putting a piece of sheetmetal over the hole and mounting their battery on the firewall in its place. Then they install a Mojave heater in the cab. This is a really good idea if you decide to modify or remove your inner fender wells. Personally, I like to have my defogger available if I need it. Plus you may have a working air conditioner in your ride.

ya A/C was already disabled and the compressor was removed before i got it, plus i like taking the top off in the summer :waytogo:

living in wyoming it will be nice to have the extra heat the mojave puts out over stock. if i remember right the stock chevy heater puts out arounf 8,000 BTU and the mojave puts out 28,000 BTU. but its been a few years since i looked those numbers up.

I wonder if you should go ahead and change the ignition module while you've got the cap off. Couldn't hurt anything. They're pretty cheap and they go out a lot too. It's good to keep one with you when you're out in the middle of nowhere too.

ive had them go out before, im trying to hold off cause i have an MSD ignition system at my dads with the rest of my junk.

Oh okay. Still wouldn't hurt to keep a spare in the glove box until then I guess. I had one start to go bad one time and I was way out in the woods. I had to drive back home about 15 miles at about 40 mph. I don't know what you would do if an MSD went out in the wilderness. Have a spare box? :dunno:

Looks like a good start. Always liked the expedition style builds. Subscribed.
