Hickey front axel truss assembly

so i drive by this 74-75 blazer every now and then and today i notice its got the spare tire carrier, brush guard and winch. Not sure if its Hickey or not, but sure looks like. I'll have to stop buy a poke around next time. I don't think it ever moves...

I just got back from taking my papers to my tax accountant and took some pics of 2 trucks in the small town they were in. A third truck I saw had the Hickey pushbar, lights and two small tow hooks on it and it also had the D44 skidplate under it.

I didn't take pics because the owner was outside and they'd never sell it. They've had that truck way back when I was coming to that town to bang a chick back in high school. The truck is rusty beyond recognition.

My spy photos. these are cell photos. don't know who it belongs to. its parked out buy a gas station. its completely hammered and rusting away. too bad cause its a full top...

:haha::haha::haha::haha:

i have talked to that guy about buying that truck 3 times. its the owner of the gas station's truck. he used it for hunting. it has set for 10 years total . engine and trans have less than 1k miles on them. he wont give me a price, and i havent offered very much for it yet. i'm thinking i willoffer him $700 after i get my k5 running again.

i drive past that truck about 10 times a day road testing cars.

I'd figured you might have seen it. I often take the 8 in off of 26 to avoid the 217. See it all the time too.

Its really a shame to see it rusting out like that. it would need a total frame off and lots of new sheet metal.

it use to sit at his property by the coast. thats why its so rusty. there isnt much left of it. the drivers window is non-existant. i was just interested in parting it. keeping the windshield frame, winch and whatever else i might need (do you see a pattern here)

pattern...some might say mental illness. its rampant here...I used to always have a $500 special in the back yard. My last blazer (bluebeast) was built with 100% used parts.

I've got the exact same tire carrier. Push bar looks Hickey correct. Not sure on the fuel tank skidplate as it doesn't match the picture near the top. And the winch looks like a Warn unit instead of the sidewinder.

Is road salt common up in Oregon?

Its sea salt that killed this one...

otherwise we use cinders from all the volcanic action this place has seen

nope. no road salt. this one is a bit rustier than normal for this area. the coast range area where he had it is known for always being moist. i lived there for a while. it did a number on my dodge. it just never gets dry there.

Ok, got ya.

That reminds me of the 3 M1008's I bought from down south Texas in Corpus Christi. They were rusty hunks, BAD. So much surface rust on top of seemingly 10 layers of surface rust. Get a hammer or putty knife and start poking the rust flakes away. Made the metal thinner and thinner.
Those trucks I won were all beach/border patrols. I learned about the sea salt and what effect they did on vehicles down south in those mostly "rust free" states.

Oooooooooooooooohhhhh damn! Desert Fox edition!!!

Nice find! :waytogo: Too bad its too far.
