I'M NOT RUNNING HID LIGHTS FOR DRIVING :waytogo:

Ok, got that out of the way. :doah:

Looking to swap out my sealed high beams for composite H4 conversions. After that, I'm going to run an H4 HID setup.

I'm only looking to run these offroad. I'm not ready for extra lights (like Hella's etc, which would be way better I know) but I'm just looking to take advantage of the lower lenses and put some HIDs in them.

Does anyone have any experience with any particular HID conversion? Better still, any particular EBay seller and brand? There are HID conversions on EBay ranging from $35 to $1000. (I can't believe I can get everything for $35, WTH?) I'd rather not spend all my money on this, so somewhere between $100-$200 is plenty.

I'm also considering some Hella E-code composite housings for the same location. I don't need them focused and might find it better without any kind of projectors (for offroading and having a wide spread) That being said, would the cost and better focus of an E-code be superior to the cheaper composite style with upper horizon lighting?

ive used the 35dollar ones multiple times.

No failures to date.

My buddy always gave me crap back like 2 years ago about ebay hids.

he had a set of hellas that he bought for like 600 bucks and one of his ingniters ended up going out like 6mo after i got my cheapo hids.

I had a set for 2 years that i had on my datsun that was harsh and bouncy and i even dropped one of the bulbs and it broke the outer glass off and the light still worked. i sold the car and the HIDs were still working fine.

I had hids on my blazer that are about 3 years old and still working fine. Cheapo ones. I took em off because i wanted to use em for something else. I have a set of hids on my 3 wheeler that have been on there a few years.

Basically the cheapo ones work great.

Any particular brands? The lenses and HIDs?

and great to hear, thanks. If my quad had a battery, I'd run HIDs in that too.

Why not run them as driving lights? I've got a set of HIDs in my Dodge, I hate driving anything that doesnt have them at night.

Cause they are very offensive to other drivers if not put in a controlled lens. I have serious problems with all the cars around me that have stupid bright lights. Your '94 Honda ex POS doesn't need them. I live in a major suburb and work in downtown Los Angeles. I could EASILY drive without lights 24/7.

Anyway, just looking for some more light offroad. Was thinking of running a projector style lens in the bottom location and run HIDs regularly, but my truck will be too high (IMO) and blind everyone during any kind of traffic.

There are a few local companies that advertise all over my local craigslist. Just look on there and make a few calls. I'd rather give my money to a local guy any day, especially since most that advertise around here have actual store fronts. No shipping, you can pick it up now for cheap and if there's an immediate problem you have somewhere to go.

Most are in the $60-$80 range.

yeah the ONLY way to do hids is in an offroad only setting or retrofit with a projector lense.
my Datsun, oh how i miss it. Infinity j30 projector

Nice Datsun Chris!! 510? Link me a photobucket gallery or something.

The reason I am thinking a cheap lens would be good, is because of the light spread. I always see these really nice BMW, Lexus, etc cars with great lighting drive next to me. The road is lit like crazy and I can see my own shadow, BUT all the road signs are lit my me. I think I'd rather have some light remain above the horizon, better for offroad purposes.

Ive bought several sets off eBay. Xentec is the brand and I can't say enough good about them. I would recommend them to anyone.

I like all the "vibe" about Xentec.

Not sure how to word this....
You know the quality of light coming off the Lexus, BMW, etc?
I'm worried these "cheaper" HIDs will just have a bunch of crappy blue light. BRIGHT, but not "quality" light. I like the 5000k light color, nothing more.

Having said that...this will be a CHEAP mod :haha: I've got soooo many other things to worry about ATM.

PS> Chris

That's my favorite import, EVER. I love those cars and yours is SEXY. Is it weird that I will dream of it tonight? I might have problems...

Does anyone know where I can get smaller conversion head lamp assemblies that fit the 88-91 grilles? I'd like to put hid's on my truck but my lenses are smaller than 4"x6"

There was a thread started by someone, probably a year ago, that talked about that very problem. I believe he was modifying his front end to fit the larger lamps. He also used the Hella E-Code lights. I think the title has "165mm" or something like that. Can't remember. Had a LOT of stuff on the subject. :waytogo:

i used an HID conversion from www.ddmtuning.com for my polaris RZR back when i had it, insane light and you could pick the color.

Beat me to it.

When i did my BMW ones a couple years back, the DDMtuning ones were thought to be the best deal.

No issues to date. AND they've gotten significantly cheaper.

I have 5000K temp 55Watters, and they dominate. I wanted pure, bright, white light. NO blue color. And that is exactly what i got.

I'd definitely recommend them!
