HID conversion opinions

To replace stock headlights, I couldn't find anything that works right with HID. There is always the option of getting real HID projectors from a newer car and cutting up stock lights to graft the projectors in. This works, but is a pain to seal and I've never seen a cheap source for parts. The depth can also be significant enough to require even more mods to the vehicle.

On both my van and car I gave up on HID ended up with new housings, heavy wire, and relays. The minivan is so bad I had to go up to 80/100W bulbs to even have safe light output. The color temp is right, the pattern is right, the brightness is good, it just isn't as cool or efficient as HID. I get over 13V to the bulbs and it isn't nearly as good as the lighting in the K5. The K5 has the small 89-91 sealed beams with good wiring and relays. The lows stay on when the high beams are on. I can see road signs over a mile away, the trees, the ditches, the fields...

If you have room for lights mounted on the bumper or something, then there are more options since you can start from scratch with HID off-road lights.

I agree , except about the light not being better. That's not true at all.
Some HID "conversions" put a lot of light in the foreground. Even if the light 1/2-mile away is better than the halogens, your vision at that distance is worse because the eye adjusts to the brighter light up front. If you're driving in the woods it may be fine, but if you need to see a long way it's not the way to go.

Put the 35w 5k HID's in, and these things are bright :eek1:

so im thinking, for high beams only (keep my sealed halogens on lows for now)

For the actual kid, 35w, low beam only, for the h4.
5000k color
I want to find out if their harnesses are plug and play, it not I may just get lmc's because I dont want to hack my stock harness.
And a set of mounting brackets.

I also plan to purchase a set of their housings, unless they are the ones you tried and hated.

I have their housings and i am not upset with them at all. Especially for high beams though, i would buy 55W. And a relay kit. Yes, all their stuff IS plug and play. Seing as they need good voltage to start up, and the blazers dont really provide that, i think a relay kit would be necessary.

So you have ddms housing, raptor kid (or similar) and their hd relay kit? The sales person suggested I go with the 35w because of the smaller housings. For my brights I just wanted the 55w so I could light up whatever direction i planned to head.

thinking off useing these as auxilary lights(50 series),will come on with high beam only. they have h-3 100watts,ive run h-3 100 watts before and they seem to burn quit often. so could i install hid bulbs? 35 watts 5000k xentec would they be stronger? how about the 55watts? or should i get a real hid projector$$$.

These are way too bright for regular headlight use, I don't want to blind people all the time. I think what I'm going to do is get some 4x6 housing and mount them in my bumper opening (on my dodge) and run them off a switch. Might try to get the 55w ones also

Bought these lamps. I might try using the stupid "city light" for a blinker, changing it to an orange bulb and wiring it to the other blinker.

These are HID lights I got. The seller I found that sold the Xentec brand only had 6000k color and slim ballast. So I'm going to try these in 5000k.

Can't wait to hook everything up, just need time. :)

That's almost the EXACT setup I used.... (mine are the "Halo-Led" style.)

You should be happy with the output/pattern.
I removed the "blinker", flipped the housing upside-down, and used the hole as a vent.

HID's get hawt!!!
Especially at a crawling pace... :waytogo:

Yes. DDM's housings. The outer lenses have a high/low H4 bulb. 55W Raptor. I believe that the slim ballast's are made by DDM. I havent had very good luck with any slims, so i usually steer away. Their high/lows come with a relay kit. So I have their relay running their bulbs from ONE side of the truck. I believe i used the passenger side. The relay only use's one factory plug in since the amp draw is so low to their relay. Then on the other side my low beam is cut off and wrapped, and i have another relay that comes off of the driver side high beam wire, and fires both high beams. Clear as mud?
