Hi all,

So after changing out both the incredibly gummed up accelerator and TV cables on my 84 blazer, there's now a loud hiss coming from the carb I didn't notice before. It's also idling higher than before the cable change.

So, The hissing comes from a hole at the rear end of the top of the carb. I disconnected its hose, and the hissing stops, and the hose sucks pretty hard. No obstructions that I could find in either the hose or the hole where it connects. Now, I don't know if it's normal or maybe I bought the wrong TV cable or didn't adjust it correctly, or what? The blazer does seem to idle higher now as well, but I'm again not sure if this isn't normal vs if it idling too low before the cable changes.

The existing cable, and the longer ~44" cable available at the store both seemed too long. So I went back, bought the ~36" cable and it seems like the right length from the throttle to the connecting hole on the tranny, not really any "extra" cable to stow away.

Also, in the process of taking out the air cleaner, I brushed against these other two hoses, though I'm not actually sure they were connected to anything. I've no idea where the first would go, as I can't find anything open to connect it to. The second, I think, may have something to do with cruise control, but it might be vestigial in this particular blazer's condition. I was told it had a new tranny when I bought it, but I'm not sure which one.

I would very very grateful if anyone could give advice on the hissing/sucking from the carb/hose, as well as what the other two hoses purposes could be, and where they're supposed to connect.

Thanks again for any help!

(Please pardon my poor auto vocabulary. This is all very new to me.)

That large hose connected to the top/rear of the carb needs to be moved to the cruise connection that you mentioned.

The one right behind the yellow circle, which connects to the "hole" in question? Whoa! :eek1: I might have bumped some cables removing the air cleaner, but I know I didn't rearrange anything like that.

The smaller hose that you will be left with will connect to the top/rear port on the carb.

MOST IMPORTANTLY...... Get someone with experience to help you adjust that new TV cable as you can burn up even a new transmission in just a few miles if it is not adjusted properly.

Wow, I certainly don't remember rearranging any cables like that...but it was dark and very very late. Maybe I was hallucinating. :doah:

I did do a lot of research (especially here) before installing and adjusting the new TV cable. My brother-in-law will be in town in a week though, and he has a lot of experience with all this. I'll have him verify my work.

Thank you so much for the help.

Are there any diagrams out there that make sense of all the hoses and where they go?

You bet.

Just to clarify I am speaking of the vacuum hoses in the pics and you speak of "cables".

Cables = electrical wire of varying sizes
Hose= rubber vacuum and pressure tubing

Just razzing you on the vocabulary that you already said you were deficient on but we are here to help and learn from each other.

Am I wrong in saying that that TV cable looks like the later self adjusting sleeve ones where you just set it all the way slack, push the pedal to WOT and it adjusts its self?
