Histeer - TRE's Hitting Each Other - Update W/ Question

Yes, that helps a lot.

Could you verify your drag link hole measurement?

Thanks!

I'm using the hole closest to the king pin for the tie rod and the furthest hole for the drag link - right or wrong?

I wasn't sure so I googled for hi steer pics and the all showed the drag link and the outer most link.

yep 7 inches from kingpin center to center of outermost hole.

That's good for me since mine is the same. I may only need to move the inner holes.

What about the part placement - drag link in the outer, furthest hole on yours?

That was great, I've never noticed the instructions before. Thanks!

Simply from a $$ standpoint I don't want to replace the arms. That plus it seems like no one sells spring type arms anymore.

Going off on a tangent here....is there an advantage to having the spring type arm versus spring-less?

I'll go with "personal preference". My reason; I simply trust the Dana engineers because their resources were certainly far greater than any springless arm maker.

I'm pretty sure a big reason for the springless design was to combat death wobble. That's great BUT who's training folks to correctly assemble these arms? As far as I know, the only assembly spec is a measure of drag when turning the bare knuckle using a spring gauge. I certainly don't know of nor have I even read about, anyone using one.

Something else to think about is maintenance, is the average wheeler checking for slop to readjust the stud in the arm? How would you do that? Back to that gauge that 95% of D60 owners don't have.

Sorry for the soapbox type post but I'm just not a believer.

I ran springless on my K5. There is a spec for it, 25lbs. Used a fish scale to measure the preload. That being said, I'm running spring type on the crew cab. My steering arm is 6.25" from center of king pin to center of drag link hole.

Correct that, I have ORD arms now. The 6.25" measurement was for my previous WFO steering arm.

It's crazy how different arms have different measurements. :dunno:

Is yours off? I wouldn't mind verifying my TRE's fit together, if you don't mind.

Great thanks! No need to pull it off the knuckle, but if you don't mind unhooking the drag link, I just need to see if the TRE's I'm using will clear each other with your arms spacing.

I will be out of pocket Saturday but I may holler at you Sunday afternoon. Want me to call or pm before coming your way?
