Where I work on trucks and trailers we do anything but engine repair. Some shops are starting to avoid repairing roll up rear doors. Not us, and I got elected to be the roll up door guy. So I'm making bars to fit the holes in the spring tensioners. They look exactly like the ones on your garage door at home.
 
yea i know exactly what you are talking about i normally use a 6 inch or so grade 8 bolt or a ground down lady's foot. and man oh man are them things strong. we got one bay door in our shop that is manual and our doors are around 2k lbs each and them tensions are tough its everything I can do to turn them.

Sometimes I fully understand making tools... but I must ask, why make this allen key? Can't use it torquing to spec, and still going to need to add on to really get the job done. Don't get me wrong, that is badass, but a 3/4" drive 7/8" hex bit with a lifetime warranty is like $30. Could use with an impact, ratchet, torque wrench.

Not trying to knock, just asking.

I'm betting this was free for you, that makes sense then.
 
One of our customers does lots of CNC machining so I have some 22 inch pieces of one inch solid shaft over there getting a hole drilled in the end for various size pieces of shaft.

Yep it was free. And when you are talking 600 ft-lbs I am not gonna buy a torque wrench to get that spec so a hammer and this allen will work just fine:D. I also do not have a 3/4" drive anything.

I made a puller for the carrier bearings on my D70U.

With the race on the bearing, the Hydraulic ram with the metal ring is placed on top, then the hinged doohickey is clamped around the whole deal. Then, the metalring is threaded towards the end of the ram until the top of the ram is snug against the top of the yoke, effectively sandwiching the bearind and race between the puller jaws and the threaded metal ring, then, hook 'er to the pump, and pump away. Works like a charm. The materials cost aboot 1/4 of what the proper tool from Randy's R&P costs.
 
I forgot all about this thread. Mine is simple. I took an 8 inch piece of tube and cut a socket and welded the tube into the middle. I now have a socket for leaf spring nuts that I can use without cutting the Ubolts down. It helps when figuring out how thick I want my springpack.

Ohhh ... took me a minute to see what you mean. You're talking about a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepwell socket, yeah? Hmm ... :thinking:
