how can i get more power from my 454?

Very sorry to hear all the problems you have had.

On a side note... what headers are your running with the big block?

This really sucks, I have been an extremely sloppy engine builder, never checked a single tolerance on anything in my BB, hardly used a torque wrench and broke it in with full throttle runs at Mud Fest and the only problem it has ever had was cutting an oil cooler line that very day, running out of oil, and making a mess. 10K miles later, still good.

LOL you guys.... let me explain my luck..... Last night leaving my second job at 2AM I was driving my daily (a 2006 volvo wagon) I hit a pothole that was caused by uncovered unmarked road construction. This took out two of my BRAND NEW 19" TWS wheels and two tires. total estimate is $1,600.00 in damages. and thats just wheels and tires. the car hasn't even been looked at by a shop.

This is my luck lately.....

The great car gods could build me an engine it will blow....

LMFAO and now my spare went flat....
I think I am done with cars.

HAHAHA I will find the silver lining somewhere...

Do you still need help with this?
The 454? It's finally torn down today. My machine shop is doing the rebuild this time for almost zero in labor and just the cost of parts ( at his cost ).

Update for everyone. Bearing on #2 was totally shot completely wiped out the crank, cam and ALL bearings.

Machine shop is calculating some bids....
1. Possibly switch to a 496
2. Possibly keep the same setup with new parts
3. Possibly switch to a roller cam

I'll have solid numbers aND a plan on Wednesday.

Wow ... but why so much damage!?

Stroking is a good way to make more power and keep the same street manors, and a roller cam always sounds good to me. No break in issues.

Are you sure it wasn't a wiped lobe on cam that caused the wiped bearings and crank?

The cam was only showing a little abnormal wear. Just enough that we don't want to reuse it. I'm feeling positive that the bearing/crank material caused the issue with the cam wear.

Make sure when it goes back together that the journals are super clean. Don't' need that crap floating around in the engine after rebuild.

Oh yeah! I know we have everything 100% torn down and the machine shop is going to bake and wash the block. it should be so clean ( clean of any metal or grime) I should be able to eat off it.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed that we don't run into any issues with this build
