How do I get the hub off?

You mean that thing that looks like a bottle cap? file the valleys or the high parts?

Yes, file all the high spots even on the edge where the arrow points.

I don't know if a parts store is going to have that clip or not but a junk yard is your friend in this situation. If you don't have a junk yard close enough I could always go grab you a couple and send them to you (might even have some in the toolbox, but doubtful since I run a D60 and they are different).

Thanks a lot!! I'm gonna go get at it...I may need some help finding the clip

Push that chunk back some to get room to do the filing.

OK...that thing is off and the "castle" nut ring thing is off....now there is something in there holding it on...appears to be silver with holes all around it...I bet that's the thing that I need to go get a special socket for?

You are describing the washer with all the holes, that will slide off the spindle and allow you to get to the inner spindle nut. I find it easiest to use a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the washer with all the holes but a pair of needle nose pliers should work as well.

You should have needed the "special" socket for the first nut too...

If you still have it at hand, that dental pick should work too. Just hook it in one of the holes and pull.
May have to swap holes from side to side if it binds, but it just slips in.
The Castle nut is what you might need the socket for. It fits the slots in the nut.

I have this vision of him sitting in front of the hub, holding a laptop in one hand and digging in the hub with the other....:D

Somebody please...before I kill myself....what is the secret to getting the lock washer back on?

I cannot get the little pin to line up on one of the wholes....:mad::confused:

You need to either tighten or loosen the inner nut to make one of the washer holes line up with the pin of the inner nut. I like to flip the washer over and see if any of the holes are closer and then once you've found the closest hole move the inner nut whichever way to allow the washer to fit on and over the pin of the inner nut.

Holy cow! That was not easy! I still made about 150 adjustments and eventually painted the little spike on the inner nut...I painted it white and I could see it better.
Still took about 2 hours worth of tries though...back alittle...forward a little...

I finally got everything back together...the steering is much tighter now with the new drag link ends and the new wheel bearings...
been at it since 9:00 this morning...it is 6:30 now...

that's a lot of unskilled labor....

fyi snap ring pliers work great for pullin and installin the lock washer in the middle of the 2 nuts.

and fyi that washer is off set from center. so if your off a tiny bit from lining up the pin flip it over and retry.

That drive slug just prys out, there are the axle nuts behind that. None of the trucks Ive had, have ever had a snap ring holding the slug in.

that's because the previous mechanic never put it back on. it is there to keep the stub shaft pulled tight to the seal in the back of the spindle.

Keep in mind you've now gained knowledge and skill...the next time you get into the hubs and stuff it'll go a lot easier and faster. Every single thing you learn and know about your Blazer will help you save money in the long run.

It gets easyier the more time you do it. I have found that the little telascoping magnetic pen works good for removing the lock washer.

Thanks to everybody who helped out on this :waytogo:

That outside nut that you have to use the special socket on didn't want to go on either....finally it "bit" and I got a small turn on it...then had to use a cheater bar to turn it the rest of the way....it was also hard to get off, had to use cheater bar to get it off...
Is everyone elses that way? or do I have some bad threads?

Damn, there is a little bird in here. :haha: This is EXACTLY what I said in an earlier reply.
