how is fram filter??

i install fram where i work...junk.

ive seen a few with pinhole leaks, even more dented still in the box. if given the choice i like to use mobile one filters or the k&n. i have to admit tho i only like the k&n because of the nut on the bottom. makes removing the old one alot easier

I cut apart a fram HP filter today.

Still, more cardboard, weak by pass valve, system.
It looked like it just had a little more.filter media than the other junk frams..

And it was supposed to be for racing

Pentius Filters are great too, no name brand but I've seen them cut open at the wholesale house I buy them from. They also sell every other filter under the sun, so it's not product pushing.
AC Delco, Napa gold, wix, and pentius are some of the ones I use. I can't talk a couple of my friends out of using Fram. O well.

S-M-A-L-L town here, we don't have a NAPA...:dunno:

All we have is Vatozone and Advance Auto....:doah:

I live in a small town. Population 1,700. We have a NAPA, no Autozone, or Advance. In the midwest, most small towns have a NAPA.

Dang that sucks , all the small towns around were I've lived ALWAYS have a Napa!! you have to go to the bigger towns to find the crap stores like vatozone

I used to always use AC Delco, but all of their filters are changing. They are made by a new manufacturer and now they are transitioning everything to the "E-core" design, which in theory has better filter media, but it's obvious that they are taking cost out them. I don't know which models are good or bad, but I am now trying not to use AC Delco anymore.

NAPA Gold/Wix, older AC Delco, Mobil in that order.

Wix is the best, but I have heard eventhey have had some farmed out and made in china,so we'll have to watch & see if they will preserve Wix's good reputation...

I used to buy AC-Delco's,but they are mexico made now,so they too might not be as good as they were once upon a time...

I would trust a Purolater filter, and Champ filters are good too, they make Lubrifiners and many other brands "bargain" filters--look for "Champion Labratories" on the box..

There are hundreds of brands of oil filters, and I put Fram at the rock bottom,I'd only use one if I had no other choice..I even have 2 "free" ones I had given to me still sitting in my room collecting dust..if I happened to punture an oil filter or had one leak I might use them in a pinch, but after I saw a cut-away of several different brands and saw how cheesy the Frams are made,I wouldn't leave one on my engine for long..maybe if you changed oil every 3000 miles they would be OK,but you'd still be risking increased engine wear..I have seen many Frams pop when oil pressure was high during cold starts and some that swell like ballons, that alone tells me the shell is too thin and would be easily punctured..

that sucks, I thought Wix was made in North Carolina, you'd think it would be easier to get.

Ive always ran fram, same with most of my buddys. Cant say Ive really had a problem with them. Blew a couple seals out on a couple, but that was b/c of other engine problems.

As some may know, I'm a Nissan tech. I have personally had 3 Titan trucks come in with a squealing noise from the engine and they all had Fram filters. We swapped 'em over to factory Nissan filters and no more squealing noise. I have seen this with Penzoil brand filters too, wonder if they are made by the same company.

yup, I've seen the same thing.... on a Fisher Panda generator...
