How late do you work on your truck?

haha you guys are funny... my neighbors house is about 20ft away from my driveway.. so my bro was out at night last week finishing up spray painting his truck.. alll he was using is a can of spray paint.. even came into our house to shake it up, then went out to paint it.. the cops ****in show up cuz the spray paint noise was to loud.... this was at 12am... so watch out guys, spray cans are to loud...

Yeah, well this new lady that just moved in next door had to come out and try interrogating me at 2:00 a month back. All I'm doing is polishing my wheels. That's it. I wasn't even turning a wrench. So she comes out and asks me, "What do you do so late at night?" I said, "I'm polishing my wheels." She asks again, "No, what is it you do so late at night?" Then, laughing, I just told her it was none of her business what I do at night. She asked if my truck even had a muffler. I laughed some more but mostly ignored her. Then she says, "Well I feel like I'm doing my part by wearing earplugs. We have a problem." I said, "No, YOU have a problem. I'm not the one out here complaining. I'm not going to quit driving." Apparently, just me pulling into my driveway was enough to wake her up every night. This isn't even the Jimmy (which really is loud) she's complaining about. I told her I'd lived here 7 years and she was the first to complain. Oh well. The rest of us who live in the area have since realized she's crazy.

Oh yeah, when she moved in, I moved her washer, dryer, and refrigerator in for her...in the truck she was now complaining about.

I'm going to give her a shirt that says, "Wrenches not wenches."

:haha: spray cans are too loud? :haha:

Yah my neighbors house is right over the fence. A few times i've been working on my truck past 10PM because i need to drive it the next day, and the neighbor will come over and tell me that i'm being loud and ask me politely to stop.
I'll wrench until 1 or 2 in the morning, but no hammering or air tools or grinding. only hand tools after 10PM.
I'll drive my BBC camaro all night on friday or saturday and rumble back into the garage at 1AM shaking the windows and waking all the neighbors up no doubt. but other than that i try to be respectful with noise.

I usually mention to my neighbors that I will be working late no one has ever complained but I do try to be quiet. In the winter time I shut the garage door. Of course if my neighbors have mechanical probs that are a simple fix I do it for them.

til the crackheads and hookers stop walking the streets...

i usually work from midnight til 6-7am cause i work during the day, sleep 2nd shift and all my friends seem to work 2nd shift and need their crap fixed at night.

but i'm in a commercial area now, when i was working outta my parents neighborhood i still worked the same hours but i felt the need to use air/power tools more :D :D uppity biatches...

up until a few moths ago, i'd put away the sledge, sawzall, etc. around 1am, and only go dremel and wrenches. but, i just got new neighbors on both sides who grind and weld all night and now we make noise 24/7 if we get the urge. it's pretty sweet. with actual temps in the 97-102 range, lately, and heat indexes much higher than that, night really is the better time to do most work.

when i had my apartment, a few years ago, i was replacing the shocks on my c1500 at about 2:30am in the pouring rain, to get my mind off junk. cop thought that was wierd made me show him id to check against my plates. it's nice to know they still pay attention to auto theft type stuff, even if it was a little inconvenient for me, at the time.

i get off work at 9 then go home have dinner and wrench, i will try to get as much done with hand tools as i can and wait till the weekends for the air tools or sawzall if my buddies are over ill be out wrenching untill 2-3. my truck is in the backyard on the side of the house facing some party animals so they dont really complain about the swearing at all hours of the night.

Usually until about 10 or so. After that, I don't make much noise, but will keep working all night as long as it doesn't involve power tools or excessive cursing. :D

well, now that my noise nazi neighbor moved, i can prolly go till 10 with no issue...

my garage is cinderblock with all doors and windows heavily insulated, so it does pretty well at retaining noise.. the biggest prob is my new neighbors house is only about 10' away on that side.. he's cool, and i warned him about occasional projects, but i still try to be considerate cuz they have a 2 or so yr old..

heck, the only thing he's been hearing out of this house lately is the hum of the AC... :doah:

Our laws here are 10:00 pm...
That's when I put the inpact and air chisle away...
but...I like to paint late at night...sometimes I find myself finishing as late as 5:00 am.

My neighbors are cool too.

yeah my mom actually went over and talked to him a few days later about calling the cops on us, and she said if u just politely ask he will stop instead of callin the cops. and his responce was "i shouldnt have to tell him to be quiet" :doah: i guess everyone knows spray paint is loud....cept us

when i lived WA, never stopped cause of time. now i sometimes will work till 10-12 but usually quite to get sleep for work. there is no noise ord here  in el cajon
my wife and family is from kenosha and little swamico- she would say go for it :D

Latly I have been getting up at 9:00Am and not coming home in tell 3:00AM. It kinda helps that I am on vacation.
Thanks
Adam

all night long if need be, floodlights, air compressor, whatever it takes sometimes

it happens

living in redneck podunk out in cornfields town, plus yeah at night is better currently with the upper 90s to 100 temps out there anymore

IL is like TX now

same diff really

cept for rust

and its so dry that there are no mosquitos or any other bugs to annoy you all night long!

its great :thumb:

hehe

happy night wrenching/beating/grinding, etc, :D

I used to care.....

I used to always stop working outdoors after dark--by then,I'd be too tired to do much anyway, and I didn't want to piss off my neighbors by using a DA sander, grinder,or beat on rivets with a hammer and other "demolition" work..plus I had to go to work in the morning! :doah:

Now that I have the quonset hut garage,I probably could get away with making more noise without getting any complaints(except for hammering!)..but now that I'm 47,I dont have too much gusto to work late anyway..only once did one neighbor across the street "complain" about my working outside--she was concerned her small children would go blind from watching the "pretty blue lightning" my Arc welder was making! :eek1: --so I dont weld outside at night unless I have no choice, and I park my truck in front of the shop to block the veiw if I do...

Now I dont give a S*** if they like it or not--if I have to fix something no matter what hour it is,I do it!--my neighbors think it's ok for them to ride a quad around in circles at all hours of the night and day, while their 2 dogs bark incessantly, and others across the street must run a crack house, cars coming and going at all hours with fart can mufflers, beeping the horn all night--they never get any visits from the cops,so why should I be quiet???--

Plus, since I built my shop,at least a dozen new car dealerships have been built right in front of my street off a highway--I hear car alarms, chains being dragged on ramp trucks (with the flashing beacons in my windows at 3 am,)and they empty the roll off dumpsters at 3 am too!--and an industrial park and a Wal-Mart is right up the street too--so I get to hear semi's jake brakes at all hours too...so I'm going to make as much noise as I want, and screw anyone who does not like it--nobody cared about US when all the car dealers and industrial parks came to be...if they can make noise,so can I...

No close neighbors and busy work schedual means most of my wrenchin is done between 10pm and 5am :frown1: . Although the wife can't stand to compressor clicking on @ 3 or 4 in the morning :dunno: :dunno: .

its been too hot to work during the day. friday i did a tune up at 1am

Last night the loudest thing on the block was the bus driving past. I went to the $1 beer night at the local AA baseball game.

I'm going to start removing the rocker panel tonight. We'll have to see if I get any complaints from the racket.

Let them come...maybe it will be a good way to meet my neighbors.

usually work till dark, maybe a little past, gets old clenching a maglight in your teeth. Anyone wanna build me a garage. But one time in particular I can remember, installing ball-mount for cb antenna. Couldnt find dang 1" hole saw. Me and my buddy looked everywhere, ok so we decide to drill a 3/4" hole w/ a dull bit and an air drill. And we'll use the air chisel in my bumper and make the hole big enough. We didnt realize it yet, but it was 1am:eek1:  . The noise comin from a step bumper, using an air chisel, at 1am, ah yes it was a little strange for the neighbors Im sure. Got it done packed up, went it the house, looked at the clock, wtf, it was just 8pm a few minutes ago!
