I used to care.....
I used to always stop working outdoors after dark--by then,I'd be too tired to do much anyway, and I didn't want to piss off my neighbors by using a DA sander, grinder,or beat on rivets with a hammer and other "demolition" work..plus I had to go to work in the morning!
Now that I have the quonset hut garage,I probably could get away with making more noise without getting any complaints(except for hammering!)..but now that I'm 47,I dont have too much gusto to work late anyway..only once did one neighbor across the street "complain" about my working outside--she was concerned her small children would go blind from watching the "pretty blue lightning" my Arc welder was making!

--so I dont weld outside at night unless I have no choice, and I park my truck in front of the shop to block the veiw if I do...
Now I dont give a S*** if they like it or not--if I have to fix something no matter what hour it is,I do it!--my neighbors think it's ok for them to ride a quad around in circles at all hours of the night and day, while their 2 dogs bark incessantly, and others across the street must run a crack house, cars coming and going at all hours with fart can mufflers, beeping the horn all night--they never get any visits from the cops,so why should I be quiet???--
Plus, since I built my shop,at least a dozen new car dealerships have been built right in front of my street off a highway--I hear car alarms, chains being dragged on ramp trucks (with the flashing beacons in my windows at 3 am,)and they empty the roll off dumpsters at 3 am too!--and an industrial park and a Wal-Mart is right up the street too--so I get to hear semi's jake brakes at all hours too...so I'm going to make as much noise as I want, and screw anyone who does not like it--nobody cared about US when all the car dealers and industrial parks came to be...if they can make noise,so can I...
