how long have you had your K5?

reading some other threads got me thinking. How long have you owned your K5?

I always wanted one. My first car was a 1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 bought by my parents for $2k. It was freakin awesome but incredibly unsafe.

In 1993 I started shopping for my first car I paid for, a blazer was high on the list and my buddy had one that he was getting ready to dump. An 87 GMC Sierra Classic with all the options on 33" tires. I jumped at it and paid $7200 hard earned high school dollars.

It is funny as you can see this in my membership. I think I joined in 2002 or something like that but was absent for a good part of the first decade....

Daily driver through college and into my first job. Got stolen once in LA while I was up in Mammoth but recovered and fixed.

Then I got my first new car and the truck only got rolled out on weekends. Fast forward to 2005 and the tired SBC got new heads, headers and the axles got rebuilt. Then it sat again.

2014. Wife said build it or sell it..........

well...... the rest is history. So paid cash in 1994. PAID CASH in massive amounts 2014 - 2016 lol

I bought my old '80 K10 in 1987 and kept it until the cab started coming apart in 2002. That same year we had our second kid and needed a 4th seat so I worked a trade for my '91 K5 body in exchange for axle swap labor on a Suburban.

...and it's still not done.

I bought my '79 K5 at the end of April earlier this year. Now priorites have changed and I have bills I'd like to pay off, so now I'm trying to sell it. Still have plans to own one in the future though.

Have a '72 K5 my dad bought new for $5k - still have the bill of sale. Also have an '89 Jimmy my dad bought new. I've had both since '93 when he passed.

My first K5 was a '72 I bought for 1800 bucks in 1982 I think,had it at least 8 years...this is what it looked like the day I got it at the former owners house...

I tend to keep most of my vehicles a long time...the other K5 I had I sold after a few years and I never registered it,it was a '71 CST--looking back that was the one I should have kept--tach dash,factory 4 speed,(after going through agony converting the '72 to a SM465,I found that CST for 300 bucks!)..but it had a mis-matched set of axles so I couldn't use 4wd..I had three other trucks too,so that one just got parked....

I have owned my '81 G-10 van since 1990 !..bought that for 500 bucks too, "blown tranny" turned out to be just a stripped govenor gear.

I bought my current k5 back in the mid-90's. It was my second 1st gen. I had a '72 right after high school that I loved, but it was a piece of crap. When I could afford it, I bought this one and have been dumping money into it ever since.
