On the left, 700R4 (Aly). Right, TH350 (plastic). Just looking at them, I'm curious enough to slap the Aly one up there and see what would have to be done to get the six bolts on the angle flanges. Not until Fri. afternoon or Sat. AM.:wink1:

I would. It looks the same to me. Post what you find out...maybe even a pic or 2.

Anyone know if the braces are the same between 350 and 6.2 diesel? My 86 CUCV pickup is missing all the braces. The dealer can get the trans/motor braces, but the T-case/tranny ones are discontinued.

By the way, where does the T-case brace mount on the non-T-case side? The picture above didn't look like it had a bolt hole there or anything.

Anyone want to sell me a full set of braces (all 3)? I'm in the market here. I'm missing all the bolts too, so I'd like those as well if possible.

I'm going to post on the "wanted" board too. The local salvage yards don't have anything.

are these the holes that the brace bolts too? ive got 203/th350 combo. i need to know where this brace bolts too. ive broken one tranny, and went threw 2 adapter plates. please post a pic that a non member can see. and before i get bombarded by the members, i know i need to subscribe, but raising a 5 yrs old by myself, on top of trying to fix my truck is really expensive. sorry im cheap, but i want to fix my truck before i buy a subscription.

i just got off the phone with a dude at Johns 4x4 in springfield, mo. he says that to make the brace for my combo, i just drill two holes in the frame, make a bracket that goes from those holes to the 2 holes in the tcase and then slap a piece of rubber inbetween the bracket and the tcase to help on vibration. sounds like a fairly easy project.

Should I have a brace on my 465/208 combo? Never have had a single problem thus far...

Ive got whats left of mine...the chunk bolted to the 6.2 and 700 and the chunk bolted to the 208...everything else was gone

I have both braces in place on my 80 TH350/205 setup. They were there when I bought it, and the shop I use said to remove them. But on his 79 they just couldn't be mounted with the 454 he added to his. They are staying on mine.

When I did the 454 swap I reinstalled all the braces. Had to do a little persuading to get the MM to trans braces on. The BBC has a 9 quart oil pan and they just didn't want to fit around it. I was able to get them there with the best tool in the world the BFH.

I have all the parts to do my 4L80e and 205 swap. I think this combo is about 1" or so longer than the 700 208 which is currently in place. I hope there is enough metal to elongate the holes on the exsisting TC brace. We shall see.

I'm revisiting this old thread. I never got back a reply to:

I have a 78 NP203-TH350 (now a NP205-TH350 with the NP205 from a 72 that had the frame mount). The old NP203-TH350 had the strut that went from the tcase to a bolt on the upper passanger side of the tranny. This bolt on the tranny got loose and fell out. The strut would hit the tcase and make all sorts of noise. I removed it and still have it saved. No bolt is in this hole. Does any one know what sized bolt went into this? I may use some rethreads and find a strut that would work for a NP205-TH350 if such one exsists.

Any help would be most appriciated.

It's a 3/8" UNC but I'm guessing at 1 1/2" u/h. Maybe 1 3/4" with the brace.

The bolt near the tranny on the strut got loss long ago and made a much bigger hole then wha was originally. I need to helicoil the hole. The bolt is long gone as it fell out. To get the actual demensions and lenght for this bolt would be very helpfull.

I used to have a brace sometime in the distant past, but all that's left of it now is what's bolted to the T-case, after that it's cut clean off (or well, not so clean really...). Included a picture I took from the passenger side (pic 1).

Naturally I want to put a new one on there ASAP, so I set about ordering one. I have an '88 6.2L/700/208 combo, but there was no way of ordering a brace over the GM vendor desk going by those specifics. They'd pull up a parts list based on model and year, and that was it. (pic 2) Well, I got that brace (pic 3), and it was GM PART #14020856 (pic 4). If you check gmpartsdirect.com for example, the GM listing indicate this merely as a "strut", with no mention of on what it fits. And the problem is, I can't make it fit! The front end that bolts to the trans/engine is bent nothing like it should be (pic 5). It doesn't have even remotely the right angle to bolt on the only place it could bolt on. Hopefully you can make out the picture; the starter is in front of the edge of the strut, and the trans pan is visible in the upper left corner.

So, did I get the wrong brace/strut after all? Does anybody know with certainty which part number goes on my combo? Or what the hell am I doing wrong? In any case, a few pics from those who have them installed would be great!
