How many of you use your blazer as a daily driver?

I drive mine everyday with a 4 inch lift and 35's. I love it, and like everyone else is saying its nice to get some compliments on it whenever you go somewhere. Parts are cheap, it's easy to fix almost anything, and it gives you a pride boost knowing that you can fix it and that you put some blood sweat and tears into it to make it yours.

The truck you have is exactly what I would love, either that or a 69-72 with a similar set up. How much would it cost to get a truck like that? Just to get an idea.

Also, can you fit ur blazer in a standard 7 foot garage?

I drive my '90 almost every day to work 50 miles round trip. It's pretty stock so the drive isn't bad at all. It rattles, has manual roll up windows, manual locks, and is reliable. Like others have said, people compliment you a fair amount, especially if the top is off. The people at work want to go to lunch in the Blazer especially if the top is off.

The only downside is like others have said, the gas mileage.

Its tough to fit it in the garage, especially with the 35's on. I don't normally park in the garage, but I had to this past week because I had the top off and it was about to pour haha. But, my garage floor is raised about an inch, and I had about a half inch or so of clearance with the door raised all the way up locked in place with a pair of vice grips, so I would think it's feasible.

On the cost standpoint, it all depends on what you want/ need and what you want the truck to do. I'm a 20 year old college student, and I was able to pay for almost all of the things I have done to the truck. I threw a cheap lift kit on, did a full exhaust, some bodywork, and some other things (rebuilt tranny, etc). I honestly think that your best bet would be to find a truck that someone has already built and is selling due to one reason or another. If you find a truck though, make sure that its worth your time and money to be put into it. Don't buy a rotbox that is gonna fall apart in a year and throw an expensive lift and tires at it expecting it to get you far. To break it down though, ill give you an idea.

Blazer/truck: 1500-4000 depending on condition, mileage etc.
Lift: At least 500, more if you go with a higher end kit
Tires: Probably around 800 or more, depending on what you want and how you wanna drive it
Gears: I'm not sure, as I didn't regear mine, but I should.
Other odds and ends add up quick, and it sucks using money that you saved up for one thing and then you need it to go to another. Ask me how I know....:doah:

dd blazer

I dd mine around 18 miles one way to work. This is my third blazer. My first was closer to 25 miles one way, first and second blazer were TBI, 88 with the 700r4, and the second blazer a 91, with the 4l60 which is now my sisters weekend truck, she dd it for a while. I am on 37x12.50x17 BFG At's was on intercos before that. The new BFG's put a smile on my face because they are such a good quality tire. I run 4.88 gears and usually cruise around 60-65 but can ounch it up to 75 when some idiots annoy me. My current blazer is an 84 with the quadrajet, just got over 11mpg on the last tank of fuel. I don't have a/c, and I live in Fresno, CA, but if its over 100 just sweat a little. I looked into another truck, but 400 bucks a month and having IFS???? Not worth it in my book. I have basically rebuilt the whole front end due to previous owners neglect, but it drive great and I love it. Find a lot of people that want to talk trucks when they see it and especially when I am at work. Met a lot of cool people that drive similar rigs, other blazers, subuurbans and k10 trucks. Owning a blazer is a way of life, one I wont do without. On a side note I owned a 2001 f150 for a while, a nice one too, but talk about boring. I plan on installing flexalite fans for my 84, did it on my 91, gets about 2 more mpg with them.

by the way, how many posts do I need b4 I can see pictures?

I daily drive my junk....

I rock 37" hummer tires, on 16.5" Chevy wheels, and it has GREAT street manners.
I do ~70mph, on the freeway, and have no wobbles, or shakes.

I drove my truck 197 miles to Nevada, then back, on the 37's.
With 4.10's and Ca. tuning, it wasn't fast uphill but got'r done.

As for economy... They're pigs.

But, Once you drive it around in traffic, you'll get addicted to it.

^^ Agreed!!:thumb:

My favorite part is rolling up next to the honda civic at the stop light with the big sub system and all the body panels rattling and just give them a good laugh:thumb: Then you take off and hope that nice exhaust is really loud and annoying in their side windows:woot:

Like this poser, with his "My addiction sticker, with a big fish... ON A CIVIC with a body kit!!! haha

I DD'd my 76 k5 with a 4'' suspension lift on 33x12.5x15 for my senior year of highschool (last year) averaging 200+ miles a week. 175k on a 400SB-th350-np203 combo worked out fine for me. I took it wheelin just about every weekend to and never let me down :waytogo: . I never had any issues dd'ing it with its size or ''sloppy'' handling and i live in a city of a million people.

Best part about it is everyone gets the fock out of your way in a hurry

I dd my '90 K5 too. I even commute with it ~50 miles to get to work. Lately the steering has been a problem so I have it parked and I'm working on swapping the steering box out for a spare one (didn't cost me anything). I'm no mechanic, (work in the hospital) but between this site and the repair manuals, its not too bad to figure things out. It also makes for an awesome hobby and in the end I'll have something neat and different than everyone else. You need to have a lot of patience (so make sure you read the buyer's guide and get a good starting platform) as there will be lots of little things that you'll want to improve. If you can, just take it one project at a time and keep driving it, so you can enjoy the progress you've made.

My plan is to make is as comfortable and fully loaded as possible. The versatility of these rigs is great too (can haul a sheet of plywood in it, etc.).

The ones uploaded to this site yes, the ones linked from photobucket or other sites you will be able to see

So the only way to view pictures is to pay for a membership? It seems kind of stupid to pay $25 if I don't even have on yet, lol.
It's only stupid if you don't want to see them and you are forced to pay.
Only you can decide the level of involvment you need.
Lots of people don't want to spend the money and are content with just getting to ask questions and have them answered for free.
And if you think $25 a year is too much for nothing, then you will not want to daily drive a K5.
In one week you will spend more than $25 extra in fuel versus another car.
Make that times 52 weeks and you spend $1300 a year extra for fuel, and you are worried about $25 a year on top of that?:dunno:

Don't think I've ever paid to be a member on any other forum. Even one I was apart of for years. Think I paid for my membership after a few weeks of being here. Worth it.
