How many of you use your blazer as a daily driver?

Don't think I've ever paid to be a member on any other forum. Even one I was apart of for years. Think I paid for my membership after a few weeks of being here. Worth it.
I paid here and our local club NorCalBigDawgs, even though I rarely go there now I still am part of it and I pay my membership, the rest I just have the free membership.
And by the way I did DD my blazer on 35" tires for 6 years until it wasn't reliable enough to do DD and wheeling trips back to back with no break for repairs.

It's only stupid if you don't want to see them and you are forced to pay.
Only you can decide the level of involvment you need.
Lots of people don't want to spend the money and are content with just getting to ask questions and have them answered for free.
And if you think $25 a year is too much for nothing, then you will not want to daily drive a K5.
In one week you will spend more than $25 extra in fuel versus another car.
Make that times 52 weeks and you spend $1300 a year extra for fuel, and you are worried about $25 a year on top of that?:dunno:
Versus...what, my current SUV, or my 550 hp TA?

It was simply my opinion. It would not make sense for me to pay $25, look around, and then decide meh, I don't really want to go that route. If I had one, I can justify it. I appreciate that it is free for info. I can google pics of blazer if I need to.

That was my point, I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just kind of putting it into perspective for some people that see it as a big deal.
And as someone mentionned, you can see any pic that is linked from somewhere else but pics that are in this forum will not show.
:waytogo:

Never owned a blazer but I have always had a truck of the 73-87 vintage that I do dd. My first, an 84, has been chopped up and tubed out and takes care of the major trail duty now but I have an 85 swb with 3/4 tons, lockers, 4 inch lift and 33s that I am working on restoring and I currently use it as my dd and in a few weeks I will be getting a 77 as a back up.

They are not the most practical vehicles to drive but I have never had to drive very far to work until recently and now have a company vehicle with a gas card so I will continue to use my impractical trucks:D

I used to DD my K10 with my commute being around 45 miles each way :doah: (all highway) then gas prices skyrocketed so I had to buy a cheap highway beater. But that also gave me the chance to do some much needed resto projects. In between projects I would drive it in at least once a week still.

Even when my K10 was my sole means of transportation, I loved it. I would get all sorts of looks commuting into Boston with it. The poor guys stuck in their plain jane box car of a camy of some type would always give looks of either holy **** or I wish I was driving something with balls and personality. I always thought that it was a fair trade off for lesser creature comforts with something FUN to drive.

I daily Drive mine. I love driving it I have a lot of Pride and Love in my Rig so I Love driving it. I bought it so I could Drive it. (87 GMC JIMMY)
One thing that has made start to not to drive it ALL the time though is that as I have built it Bigger and Better some of the Parts may not Like driving all the time. Rain snow sleet hail sun wind. Just creates a little Extra work when wheelin time comes I might have to but Extra Greese or Replace something that is worn out or wearing out do to on road use. That my non Daily driven buddys dont have to do. That is all.

I daily drove The Blazer for a year and a half. Loved it.
Like said above it's an uncommon thing anymore. Even in an era of stock 3/4 and 1 ton turbo diesel trucks as big as our trucks when lifted you get attention. It's sorta like having a muscle car but a bit different. Also definitely cheaper than a $400 a month OR MORE payment.

Downside...lord knows what happened to your truck in the past 30 years or so. Mine's in relatively good shape and I still found some rust that will need to be fixed and oh yeah...the PO's crazy wiring and random oddness. Still had to gut the interior and throw it all away due to two decades of FILTH. Still had to rebuild the front end since it had been completely neglected. Still needs new rear springs due to the 200k stockers being just plain worn out from this thing being a tugboat for a long time.

Yes, you can drive the things daily and it's a great feeling. I still drive mine regularly on weekends and usually to work once a week. However it's going to cost money to make them 100% again and will require work.
Still better than some newer crap box that is depreciating faster than you can make the $400/month payment.

It's a bit hard to DD a 1974 without the top on unless you are sure about the weather...this is my first (and last) K5 and I love it! mines not lifted at all and it still feels like you are in a tank when you roll up to the light.

Even when I get mine completed I doubt it will be an everyday DD...I don't really want to put the top back on...

For me the 1974 has it all...it's a big 4x4, it's classic looks, it's a convertible...it's a truck from an era when trucks were trucks...and you feel like you could just climb over a Prius if it slowed down in front of you :haha:

I have always wanted one since 1975 and all these years later I finally got one...It's been a lot more expensive than I ever imagined, but some day soon it will be where I want it....the ironic thing it that I paid almost exactly what it sold for new...only 37 years later.

Been DDing square body chevys for 15 years. Currently doing 60 miles a day in my 88 k5. 15 mpg last tank. 350/456/3.42s

The pick up only eeks out 10-11 mpg. I see tbi and a manual swap in its future...

Rock the old iron. Beats a payment.

I drive my 86 CUCV M1009 blazer 5 days a week, 25 miles to work. its lifted 4" with 37s. Put about 20k miles on it in under 2 years and I dont mind one bit, definitely cant wait to get a radio in there though

Its not a k5 but I DD my 88 burb always. I have a 2011 camry sitting there that does anything over an hour away. Other than that it sits there jealous as I drive the burb everywhere. I wish the camry was gone cause then I'd have $500 a month to build another square body for wheelin. Say, maybe a convertable burb or CCSB:D One of these days it'll be paid down far enough to sell:rolleyes:

I've got an 88 K5 that I dd most of the time. I've been driving my wife's 99 Malibu a bit more often lately, because I have a longer drive and gas has been pricey and we're trying to save for a house, but driving the Blazer is way more fun. Hmm... now that I'm thinking about it, my wife has been encouraging me to drive her car a lot lately... I think she likes driving the Blazer more, too!

And yeah, gas is expensive, and you'll have more repairs to do, but I really think you'd be saving money over a new car/truck. Average new truck is around $30,000. Average blazer is around $2500. Assuming just the difference in purchase price, and not including the difference in insurance costs, that leaves you $27,500 worth of extra gas and repairs (or upgrades) until the blazer becomes more expensive. And if you're anything like me, you're not going to buy a new truck and drive it bone stock- you'll put money into that, too. So financially, I'm pretty sure a Blazer is cheaper. And they're more cool. And they're one of the most all around capable vehicles on the road (certainly the most for the price).

Go for it! You won't regret it.

I drive my 84 Blazer quite a bit. but the lack of air conditioning relegates it to the barn during the summer. I made the mistake of driving it from Missouri to Colorado last summer and almost got heat stroke driving across Kansas.

but I do love the fuel mileage I get with that 6.2l diesel. around 18-20mpg on the highway. much better than my 2006 F150.
