I'm talkin factory original 4 speeds, not swapped in...:thumb:

My first ever full size chevy was a manual. Here's my list:

77 short wide
69 long bed (might have been a sm420)
73 3/4 ton pickup
76 1/2 ton pickup
86 3/4 ton pickup
86 Burb
88 k5
85 Burb (current)

78 Jimmy 465/205
78 S/B 465/205

Guess it doesn't count but I had a 66 GMC NAPCO with a sm420 and a divorced T case.

Soon will have a 82 L/B 3/4 ton 465/208 that is getting swapped into my 77 :D

Out of the 10 or so square bodies Ive owned I bought my first factory manual truck a couple weeks ago.

79 shortbed with 465/np205

I have converted 3 of the ones Ive owned including my current dd that I recently swapped back to auto:doah:

Unfortunately my last sm465 experience caused me to hate them and I will be swapping the new one to auto eventually. Unless I end up liking it which is likely.

I've only had one factory 4spd (but I owned it for 17 yrs), '80 Scottsdale K10-350/4spd/205 w/ stump pulling 2.73's!

77 K5 465/205
89 CC 465/205

what 4 spd is behind the 4.3 in my new 91 2wd pickup? :dunno:

That is an SM465.

Currently I have:

1982 K30 3+3 454 SM465/NP205
1987 V10 LWB 350TBI, SM465/NP208

My 1990 K5 that I drove home from California has an SM465, but it was swapped in.

My 1988 V10 Suburban has one, but I put it in there.

I've had a few more, but mostly just parts trucks. Seems like 95% of them around here are automatics. A real shame.

81 GMC Jimmy, original spec was 305, 10/12 with 2.73's and SM465/208.

87 Chev C3500 crew cab, TBI 350 and SM 465 with 4.10's.

Had the Jimmy for 12 years...

Sadly only 1

78 short step, 465/205 12 bolt front 14sf rear had a pass through cab width shell and carpeted bed.

Sold it to buy my first Suburban, an '88

Only had one factory equipped K5 with a SM465,it was a '71 CST...
That truck had 3.73's and the wide gear spacing of the trans didn't bother me as much as it did in my other truck,a '72 K5,that had 3.08's..

I did swap the SM465 into my '72 K5,after tiring of its original TH350 refusing to go into forward gears after sitting overnight for several minutes the following morning..

Those 2 trucks were the only ones I owned with SM465's...drove many others though too..I liked the ones with 4.10's or lower ratios best--until it was time for a long highway trip anyway..

Nvrenuf's truck with 2.73's !..you must have actually been able to use "granny low" as first gear on the street with those gears...:eek1:
I have 2.73's in my G-10 van and it sucked, worse than the original 3.08's it had that chowed the diff case out..TH350 in it in first will top out just under 60 mph, second about 85,third it wont go over 90,its simply too gutless with a 307 ,two barrel carb ..gets decent gas mileage though,if you dont go over 65 with it..

Better yet, when I bought the truck it had 38's. Not only did I use the granny gear in daily driving it, the combo of tires and gears made it feel like a regular 4 spd. :doah:

My Jimmy with the 2.73's had 33's on it. Absolutely had to use granny first to get it moving, 4th was like overdrive...

77 (or 79??) Jimmy with sm465 and 205 which I know was stock

And my 84 SWB parts truck, but who knows what this frakenmonster is. It has a sm465 and np208, also had 3/4 ton running gear and an automatic steering column. And the hole in the tunnel for the shifter is mangled up, so I'm not sure if a PO cut that out, I don't know if even the automatics had the tunnel stamped out for a manual or not. The gauge bezel stuff has the space for the automatic PRND21, but not the actual selector and needle in it, like it's missing.

My first truck was a factory 465 - '78 K20, first parts truck was a fact. 465 - 77 K25 and my current K20 is, always was, always will be a 465!! My C30 got one swapped in before the slushbox got a chance to leave me stranded! Wish every vehicle I owned was a manual!

Both the Blazer and truck are 465's, it's all I know when it comes to wheelin Chevy's :D

After daily driving my burb for 2 years in heavy city traffic I have to say the 465 can be a real chore to drive. No that its a secondary driver I like it a lot better.

Still prefer towing with a long wheel base manual also. I pull my work trailer with my 04 Tahoe now. It will run circles around the burb power wise, but the tail wags the dog a bit more than I like.
