How much $$ is in your trail rig?

MTMike said:
I got to thinking... can I count the ~$36,500 tow rig and the $3200 trailer I "HAD" to buy to get the trail rig to and from the trail head? :D
:haha: Thats a good Question! If it wasnt for the cummins I would never get to wheel:D

Just as perspective: compared to the master bathroom remodeling costs, suddenly the truck stuff seems not so expensive...

Faucets vs. alloy shafts - no contest...
Its easier to talk the wife into a faucet rather than shafts too:haha:

If I was to start over today, I could build a good rig for a hell of a lot less. Live and learn has always been my motto!

Yeah that is the exact thought that crossed my mind as soon as I decided I wanted another 4x4 chevy. Last time around

I had about 12k atleast into my 91 v10 blazer, no lift, stock 10 bolts, 33x12.5x15 mall terrains, brand new crate 6.0/4l80e/np241, becool alluminum radiator, electric fans controlled by the engines computer, cold air intake, engine mods etc etc etc, as you can tell I had about 6 or 7k into just the engine swap, and would do it again if gas wasnt so rediculous. I bought it for $3.8k, tires were $900 new, and other various parts here and there like brakes and steering stuff.

My NEW truck after the blazer being sold for a year almost.

Free-1985 Chevy m1008, 40k miles, bad starter, awesome condition otherwise. Free as in got it in exchange for some work on a house I did.

Free-Dash, kept from my blazer since it was not cracked and in perfect condition

$265-various humvee tires
-$1200 selling off all the tires I didnt want to keep for the truck
$30-aftermarket a/c box for truck
-$103-sold it on ebay cause they didnt make replacement parts for it anymore.
$40-fender
$75-Ford Windstar electric fans
$50-parts for rear disc brake conversion
$70-spray paint for touch up, sanding discs, sand blasting media
$125-bedliner material that I bought about 2 years ago, and still intend to spray in one of these days

So far I am at -$648

***Near future costs***
$160-starter
$40-flywheel
$75 tires mounted and balanced.
$200??-front lift springs
$25 in steel-homemade shackleflip
$200??-shocks
$50??-brake line extensions
$75??-steering arm
$100-power windows/locks/keyless entry kit
$35-HID headlight conversion
??-winch
$50??-front bumper
??window tint

After future costs with a winch for $500 and a tint job for $150, it comes out to around $1000 even. Not bad I dont think.

somewhere in the millions :D atleast thats what it feels like. :haha:

$800- for blazer
$750- for a set of 35X12.50R15 Trxus MTs
$Free- cutting the wheelwells so I could fit em:D
$100(I think)- new fuel pump
$5- Fuel filter
$60- replace bad injector
$80- New cat so I could pass emissions:D 31 second fast pass baby!
$750- 4" lift with springs and shackle flip
$300- for new rear springs, u-bolts, and spring bolts(While I was installing shackle flip i saw I had a broken main leaf:mad:
$270- new CV rear driveshaft
$100- pickup cab for my body swap
$200- 2 new front fenders
$75- swap meet special:2 doors(future half doors) and 2 more fenders
$40- OD green spray paint(front clip is sprayed I need to get more paint)
$96- steel to start making flatbed

That's what's on the truck now, I still got:
$200- set of 3/4 ton axles(now im not gonna use the front axle)
$50- NP203 Tcase for future doubler,maybe
$free- wire mesh to cover up back window
$75- New LMC windshield rubber gasket
$550-S&W DOM roll cage kit
$free- auxilary cooler im gonna use for power steering
$free- windstar electric fan
$free- 2 bucket seat from Mitsubishi 3000GT
$950- Warn XD9000i winch
$1000- frontD60 im gonna buy next week
and there is a bunch of other things I cant think of right now so Total Price:
$6,451 WOW I have only had the truck for 10 months!!!

I don't remember all the exact prices but the way my rig sits right now, at least $25,000. If you count all the parts i have broke, parts upgraded and then upgraded again, tires I've wore out, in the last 10 years then I'm probably over $40,000. I could probably sell it right now for a cool $3,500.

I want to point out that it has been worth every cent in fun...

Thats the goal for my 77....but I'm not even halfway there. $2900 and counting, and it still doesn't look like anything. I just ordered my 4" lift parts from ORD yesterday, and I have a D60 and a 14 bolt waiting in the garage. Hopefully I'll be wheelin it with all of the above in a month. Just need another 2K. :eek1:  Kevin

I have about $3865 in mine, and thats with lots of help from my friends!! Its fun, and I'm still searching to a cheap 60..

I wouldn't know where to begin in itemizing it. I do remember though the last total I had came up with was just under $14,000 and I'll never be finished....

I can say though I've done everything but the actual engine machining and PA inspections, myself. The other thing I can say, like most of us, that there's no coupon book and it'll make any new truck look silly....lol

haha... im gonna make a wild guess and say that i have the most money into my truck...:p:
400-bought the truck
100~front and rear brakes
120~misc. crap inside engine compartment (plugs, wires, batt tray, cap, rotor, all that stuff)
220~steering(tierods,draglink,bushings for swaybar, redid mah column too!)
200- cd player and speakers
100~ for all the crap im forgetting oh like a muffler:doah:
oh and a sweet ass oil breather 10$!!!! i couldent just get the cheap one?? C'MON! this one matches my air cleaner!:woot:
so total of....~$1150.47
haha i need a new job.

Too many stupid choices, I'd rather not know the total I've spent. I'm happy with the truck I have now, so I'm not going to complain.

If I was to start over today, I could build a good rig for a hell of a lot less. Live and learn has always been my motto!

:haha: exactly how i feel...if i knew what i know now back when i first got my K5, i'd have so much more money to start another project :D

'72 K5 purchased in 2-02: 3250
Paint Job & Restoration & new parts (worst decision ever) Summer '02: ~3K
3" lift 9-02: ~300
35" MTRs & alignment: ~1K
Misc Maintenance
Blown Front D-shaft: 80
~$8K so far, & not even a serious machine yet

This is around the time i started to get pretty stupid. first it was just a scratch, then a baseball size dent, then just some cracks on the fenders, & before i knew it, i had the whole thing torn down to the bare frame. :doah:

So my project lives on still, & hope to have it completed by the end of the year. here's what i have so far & have done so far, & most of my stuff is sitting in my garage.

First D60/14bolt: $500, then sold 'em for $1125, my only profit so far
Second D60/70 with Detroits, flanges, 1410 yokes, 5.86s: 2500
44" boggers: 1400
H1s: 180
H1s to make 'em 12" wide: 60 after trading a D44
NWF doubler/LoMax with other goodies: 2700
Suspension Pieces: ~900
Sky HySteer: 700
Frame--grinder & paint: 100
Propane Setup: ~300
Garage Rig ~ $8740

I'm sure i'm forgetting some of my stuff that i've bought that's sitting in the garage. But still need a motor, tranny, shifters, driveshafts, cage, bumpers, etc etc. but hope to get a motor by this weekend, & order my tranny once i decide on a motor. live in an area where i don't think there's any real competent transmission shops. :eek1: leaning to a Raptor unit, but we shall see.

so thus far, my total comes out to roughly 18K. looks like i'll be a #3: 22K truck worth 3K :haha: but i'm gonna make up for it once i start gettin it out on the trails & this was a fun thread, i just better make sure the wife doesn't see it :D
