How to keep a 5000 lb Monster from being stolen???

on my buddies car the emergency brake handle has to be up to start it

once it starts ya can put it down i like the idea

We sell the GPS Snitch. Although it won't keep anyone from stealing your ride, at least you can be notified at a moments notice of it being moved. It is a GPS tracking device that is about the size of your wallet. It uses a SIM card like your cell phone does, and can be tracked in real time on your home computer. No installation required with built in rechargeable battery, but it only good for 5-7 days before needing recharged. There is a hardwire kit to power it off your car battery that also boosts the tracking signal when hooked up. About the only places it can't be tracked is where there is no cell service or inside a shipping container. Yiou can have it text your phone or send emails to you if your vehicle is moved out of a specified range whether it is a few feet or a few miles. We feel this is way better than Lojack and retails for $399.

The crazy mexican guy that lives 2 doors down from me came by my house about a month ago and told me about 2 guys taking pics from all angles ( including underneath) of my k5. I work 15 hour shifts so that's a long time away from my house. so here is the current list of anti theft.
HEI plug unplugged enough to not make contact but still in the little box.
starter switch is the cig. lighter.
tripple sticks all in neutral, or double low.
40 series flowmasters with 12" tailpipes
it is also parked in such a way that it would be hard to pull it with another vehicle, or tow truck.
my dad's f100 has the wrong key super glued in the ignition switch, and a hidden ign. and start switch. that one is fun. I always ask my friends to move it out when i need to use the shop.

Well you need to use a relay. Relay's took me a little while to really understand but get a diagram and it should be pretty easy to figure out. basically you need to choose how you want to kill it, starter, coil, ecm, elect fuel pump etc. You use the relay to break that wire and use a hot wire off the headlamp switch to activate the relay and connect the wire. I did one where we broke the starter so that you only needed the lights on to start it. If you use any of the other items to kill you need your headlights on to drive. I liked that though because it gave me a reason to be safer and have daytime running lights.

I carry one of these around..

I'll be in real trouble when someone actually does steal the truck and they found out she's just going to lick them to death.

I've got the same issue, it'd suck to lose my truck. Way too much invested in it, and I really don't want to lose it. From the way it's set up, I can't use a fuel pump kill - doing that'd kill my injection pump, so all I can do right now is a couple of battery kill switches. I use the Hella ones, not perfect, but better than nothing.

if you are that worried, just get a schematic and put a relay inline with the starter and hide a switch somewhere. . . .

I know the trick the jeep guys use (i used to have a V8-TJ) is to wire in a a switch, but to use a magnetic reed switch located somewhere on the dash (where its plastic)

place a magnet over the spot and go. . . you can even keep a couple sticking around under the truck or the dash just in case.

other than that there is not much you can do. . . some guys use really big chain and try to chain their rigs. .

i say F it. if they want it, they are going to get it. all they need is a used repo truck off ebay. just insure it and do what you can to protect it.

I prefer 45 ACP, 30-06, and 12ga. . . although i think 12ga would be my favorite for this application.

Carefully wire a heavy duty toggle switch to cut off the power to the starter solenoid. Mount the switch just right of the glove box, where it is accessable but hidden.
Go to Radio Shack, buy a hood switch (similar in function to a door switch ) that when the hood is popped adjar the horns blow and the headlights flash ( yes buy a cheap alarm ). Mount the alarm reset switch on your left fender past your wheel but in front of your door.
Buy a decent chain and padlock so the hood will only raise one inch ( to set off the alarm ) but not enough to get under the hood.
I did this to a 1968 Impala in 1976. Worked real good. Never lost a battery, finaly detered would be thieves. A butfull of blue dyed rock salt from a 12 guage reabilitated their theiving ways.

Get a diesel and hide the glow plug switch. They will try to start it for a bit then move on when it wont start.

Seems like a combination of things is a great idea.

I like low-budgets solutions. I can't afford to lose the truck, but I also can't afford fancy anti-theft solutions for it!

Under the dash of my truck is such a ridiculous rat's nest of wires that I could run a kill switch using unmarked wire in some odd random color and no one would have any idea what the hell it was even if they crawled up under there and looked right at it!

T-case in neutral is a great idea. Real thieves will figure this out, but punks just looking for a joy ride may not even have a clue in this modern age where they grew up with pushbutton t-cases.

Tapping into the neutral safety switch is a good idea too as an alternative (or in addition to) using the coil interrupt as a kill.

Button on the floor under the carpet is awesome... that way people who watch you start your truck still don't have any idea where the "kill" switch is. That would have to be a starter interrupt rather than a "running" interrupt (so you don't have to keep your foot on the button the whole time you're driving) but it's a great idea... I love this one!

the guy i got my k5 from put in a pretty trick switch in the middle a/c vent on the dash. when the a/c vent is pointed down the switch is closed and the truck starts. if the vent is in the up position the truck wont start thought it was a pretty clever idea.

i have hood pins in my hood with little master lock locks on em, a fuel cut-off switch, and a battery d/c switch with key under the hood...takes a few mins to do all that when I'm getting out, but its mine and i REALLY like it so i don't want anyone getting it but me...

Do you have pics of that last rig steve???

I can't believe there are people out there that leave the keys in their cars. Small town or not... Get a key ring and put all your keys on it. Heck I feel naked without mine along w/ my wallet

when i was in oklahoma i would park the blazer with the top off and the keys in it at the house. would go to work 35 miles away, and parents would be gone all day also heck we even left the front door unlocked to the house and we never thought anything of it. now granted i lived in a county the size of rhode island with only 2000 people in it and i lived way out away from town. now that i live in colorado im so paraniod, i will walk into walmart and if i think for a second that i forgot to lock the doors i will walk all the way back out there. heck i remember i went to the rodeo last year in oklahoma and i had the top off i parked the truck and watch the rodeo and when i went to drive off a buddy asked if i wanted to go to a party with him and so i went in his truck. 4 hours later when he dropped me off i realized i had left the keys in the ignition when i left 4 HOURS!!!! and the truck was still there. if i did that in colorado truck would have been gone in 30 seconds.

i dont ever take my keys out of my wifes car. . . but still no one wants it. . . guess thieves hate saturns too
