I figure i will have a couple dozen questions as i dissassemble my 1990 suburban for paint so i might i as well create one thread for all the questions... First up is,

How do you remove the barn door glass? It doesn't have the lock strips like the windshield and quarter glass has.

And,

Is it possible to remove the lower molding without ruining it? And if i can, what kind of adhesive/tape should i use when i reinstall it?

i've never had a burb, but the style other than the removable locking strip for windows is, a self-locking weatherstrip... where it folds in under itself... you'll see a single slit/opening/crack, if you open that up with a flatblade, cotter pin puller, hose tool, you'll see it comes out, transforming it's shape/profile so the window gap is now loose...

and i'd have to see the back of the molding... often they are spring loaded clips where you push upward with the molding, and pop off...

Interesting. When you say, "you will see it comes out". Is "it" supposed to be something? A piece of wire or something? I plan on starting tear down tomorrow.

itself.. it's one piece... it's just the profile of it, allows a lip of rubber on the profile to be tucked into a groove in the profile... locks into itself..

if i wasn't lazy, i'd go find a pic...

Well ain't that somethin! Huh. Well, I'll proceed to poke and prod it and see what happens. Not unlike what i do with the wimins... Bazing...

Is that the same style seal you put back in with a rope or cord?

I watched a glass company put a new windshield in a car a long time ago. It came with the rubber already on it, with some sealer in the groove and a piece of cord either already in, or they put it in while I was not looking.

Couple of guys held the glass against the opening, with the rope inside.
Guy pulled the rope slowly and it rolled the seal right inside the frame.

I saw that trick on a car show on tv where they were installing a windshield in a mustang. Was an awesome trick and i have a hunch I will be putting it to use come reassembly time.

I knew what i was doing was bad but i kept going anyway... What i had done was gotten that little pry bar in all the way where it was under the window. At that point I pryed up to see what would happen. Well that's what happened... Anyway, I got it out anyway. I think the other one will not break if I'm not an idiot about it.

Hit a pic and pull to locaterya new window. Plus you can practice pulling it out. Did you try using soap water to remove it?

Happy to report that this morning is working out much better. Taken me about 20min so far to pull the other barn door glass without breaking it and got one of the quarter glasses out without breaking it! So far so good today.

Doesn't the connecting rod hook thru the eye a the button or is it in the lower part of the door at the latch set. I belive it has a z bend in it and you turn the rod one way then the other as you thread it out. May be a bad description but you will understand when you see it. I think it is at the latch side down in the door.

Or if I am completely wrong tell me to shut up and go away. It has been a while.

I'm not sure really. I could see how the rod goes in at the latch but it looks clipped in an impossible to reach place. On the bright side, all the driver side glass is out!

Well I got Oye handles off by releasing Oye clips at the latch. That's going to be the next best thing to impossible to reinstall... Anyway, I made decent progress today. Got all the drivers glass out then got detracted with stripping to barn doors. Then i had to pull a buddy's burb out of my garage so i could stick mine in it. Tomorrow i hope to get the passenger glass all pulled but for some reason I foresee it being more difficult than the driver side. Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I'm really hoping to get it ready to go to paint by this Monday which would be a week ahead of schedule. But again, we'll see. Got a lot to do!

Progress from today,

First off, this isnt good...
