How to remove trim, molding, and glass on a Suburban? Prepping for paint.

They need to cover them all the way when they paint.
You don't want to have to clean the over spray off them.
Way to much work for no reason.

Funny but one of the things im very much looking forward to is being able to show off the 5.3 without being embarrassed about the rest of the truck!

I love the 5.3l motor in the '06 Silverado I just bought, I didn't realize you had swapped one into the burb... I can't wait to see it painted!

Got a call today. They say the roof is painted and that the rest will get painted tomorrow but to plan on picking it up Friday. Fingers crossed but im not holding my breath.

Are they doing base/clear? The roof is a pain to paint let me tell you. I would have liked to have had a wire harness and hanged from the ceiling when I painted mine. Instead I had one foot on the ladder and one arm hanging from the rafters while shooting
you should see when I paint boats and have to rent a boom crane..... 
we used to do a fair amount of fullsize van paint jobs at the collision shop and doing the roof's was always a big pain...

It sure has! The real problem is that they didnt tuch the truck for the first three weeks that they had it... I dropped it off 7-24 and they started on it 8-15. At that point it took them until 8-25 to get the body work finished and until 8-30 to prime it.
Yes they are doing base clear. Im assuming they just wanted to spray the roof in base so that it wouldnt mess with them when they went to paint the whole thing and i figure that they will clear the whole thing at once. Dont know if thats actually how it will happen but we'll see. I plan on checking on it Thursday.
I can't wait to see it when it's done. It should look awesome.

I think thats where i went wrong. Initially i had told them that i want in a big hury to get it back etc. After they hadnt touched it for a week i started to let them know that i didnt want this to drag on forever.
What do you mean you went wrong by telling them that? They sure are not in a rush to get it done.

I mean that i shouldnt have told them to take their time. I think that because i did that they are taking advantage of me by pushing me aside for people that say they need their cars back asap.
In my experience you NEVER tell a bodyman "take your time I'm not in a hurry"....well at least the ones I have dealt with or heard about.

Yep. Lesson leanred. As i said, it really doesnt make difference how long they have it. I just want to be able to drive it home before the rainy season gets here. Still though, just because i dont need it back any time soon doesnt mean i dont want it back asap. So far, im pretty sure i would use maaco again. Either i would use this one in their slow season(right now their lot is cram packed full of cars) or just try the one up in washington. On the flip side, when im done with putting the burb back together, i think im going to start tearing into the 78. That one i think i wasnt to try painting myself with single stage something. I think that would be a pretty fun project and doable at my house. Its also going to forever be somewhat of a workhorse truck so if the paint doesnt look top notch, it wont matter too much as long as it doesnt look as bad as it does now. But who knows. Time will tell on that one. Im pretty confident in my painting ability but there was no way i wanted to learn on a burb with a base/clear setup.
Parting with it sucks and yes don't tell them to take their time. The guy had mine like 6 weeks to finish the wire and the exhaust shop had it I think 4 days.
