How to tell the difference between a 205 and 203

Theres a small plate on the back held on with 3 bolts. its in between the large round cover and the rear output

The shift pattern is different for one. On the 205, the shift pattern from far front to rear is: 4low/neutral/2high/4high. The 203 is: lowlock/low/neutral/high/highlock. The 203 typically has a large round aluminum extention on the rear of the case where the rear drive shaft comes out. Also, if your vehicle doesn't have locking hubs (auto or manual) it is the 203. I'm sure there are other differences but can't remember 'em now. chow
