How to tie roll cage to the frame?

Mine is solid to the frame in 10 places. No rubber mounts even on suspension. I wear ear plugs going down the road. But it was built for non pavement use.

Mine was tied into the frame solid and I didn't notice much of a difference. There was no noise difference and I don't think the ride changed much but my PRP seats probably had something to do with that.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Kert, maybe i was thinking along the same line. It seems that the purpose of these is to prevent the cage from coming crushing through the floor board in case of a rollover. The way these are designed it looks like they would pivot if force was applied to the top of the cage and kinda defeating the purpose.

Am I way off? School me.

Yep, you're thinking the same way I am. Granted it'd take a pretty serious rollover. Just turning the bolt the other way removes that pivot.

For what its worth, my cage is solid to the frame 14 points if memory serves. Solid body mounts. Solid motor, trans and tcase as well. Rides smooth and quiet.

I have also been in another truck that had a solid mounted body and it was shear terror to ride in. Every bump rattled your teeth. Every sound traveled through the body like ma bell put it together. I think alot of it has to do with the amount of cushion in the suspension. If the suspension can soak it up, no reason that vibration should be in the chassis at all.

Kert I would be interested in something like these also. It's coming close to address a cage on my vehicle also.

Agreed Kert... The time is very near. I'm anxious to see what you come up with.

Meantime I'll be buying tubing and getting ready.

I have a part drafted. Backward engineered to be compatible with our existing staked cage floor plates. I'll have to see if I have a punch and die short enough to do the job. Punch I think is no problem.

Everytime I've seen these used, it seems to me the axis of the bolt needs to be rotated 90*. It would appear they are mounted the simplest way but not necessarily the best way. Only way I know to describe it, with the bolt one way its a hinge. Bolt the other way its more likely to be a supporting piece. This is considering the force applied from the direction of the cab toward the frame. I think that is the most important thing to consider for this particular piece.

I just woke up and was reading this and it took me a minute to get it. Need my coffee first :D. I agree with you Kert, should be @ 90 deg. You would still get the fles effect of the bushings this way too. The way their mounted in the pic there is no cushion, just rotation like a hinge as you said. Thanks Kert for considering doing these for us, I'm stoked, glad I proposistioned ya on these. I thought about it a bunch and decided I was not going to tie to the frame but I really would rather have it tied in, having these will make it easy to do so. And give you another awesome product to sell.

I was thinking of the tabs having two...say 45 deg bends on both sides of the tab inboard to help stiffin the tab inself. When you plasma cut the piece out make the tab angle wider to accomidate for the bent part of the tab, also make a cut from where the bottom of the tab meets the base, make a cut on each side if the tab as if your cutting it off, but that cut will allow you to bend then to 45 deg, then after their bent up, you could weld the seems on the 45 bent tabs to the base. The bolt holes would be on the outside of the bent tabs giving aditional support to the base too. Make sence???

EDIT: after looking at these closer you could NOT do tabs at 45 deg in this style. Would have to have a different shape.

Another good way of mounting them to the frame would actually be at a 45 deg angle, but have each one or half and half on each side opposing 45 deg angles. Wen't be able to "hinge" in either direction, up & down or front to back.

I can do them, got to cut a die set down to fit in the spot.

I understand what your saying about the 45 bends now. In the flat the gussets would be small triangles to the sides of the tabs.

I got another idea that will do the same thing, just more so. Pm'd you about it too.

Something like that?

I'll do the best I can on price. My version is significantly different. 1/4" plate to begin with as well as 1/4" DOM tube. Second, throw in the anti shear pin and the hardware as well.

One thing, I don't like to use the locking flanged headed bolts, tears the hell out of powdercoated or painted parts. I like the extra think grade 8 washers and regular grade 8 bolts with nylock nuts or crimp nuts. Will the tab be too close to the holes to not allow that type of washer?? Other then that there awesome! Nice added touch with the shear pin too.

I could set you up with the pinch lock nuts. Don't have any other style of bolts though. Regular grade 8 stuff should work just fine though.

If I were in socal, I wouldn't paint a damn thing!!:haha:

Hay! we get rust here too, trust me we do. I hate West coast rust just as much as East coast rust..... Well, maybe not QUITE as bad :D :haha:. So when can I order these Kert? I'm ready when you are. I will take one Doz. I have some ideas for other uses too. Do I get props for bringing these to your VAST array of awesome fabbed parts list? Lets see, I have these and round cage floor plates I added to your parts list I will take credit for.:D
