I think I need a longer pitman arm, I want to say this one is about 6,5" and most aftermarket arms are 7".

What steering arm are you using?
With that pitman arm you should be able to get lock to lock steering with a 7" steering arm, even under heavy flex.
I've got a 5.5" pitman arm and a 6" steering arm, and that works fine

I think my main problem is mainly it not being straight when the steering wheel is in the middle

Maybe I just need to go full hydro, I only need to get the orbital pretty much, I could probably run around with my 1.5" cylinder for a while

Tig welded for the first time using filler rod today

I've got 3 more to practice on lol

Too long for the front, Just ordered a limit strap :haha:

I'll make it work in the back

Taking the summer of from school. So that means time for wheeling/wrenching and working. Hopefully I make a lot of progress this summer now that I'll get a steady source of income

Took my last final today, now time to make a plan to get ready for wheeling

I'm pretty much ready besides a few things that I can think of now

-Upgrade the 35 spline stubs up front with spicer hd joints
-Fix front diff cover, leaks a little and may leak worse after a hit
-install limit strap (should be done tomorrow)
-Rear brakes and repack the other rear bearing that I haven't done yet on my trailer
-take the 830 cfm double pumper off the race car and see how it does on my truck
-Make sway bar mounts and arms for my nascar rear sway bar I bought
-Cut pitman arm up and reorientate it and lengthen it
-probably will have to shorten drag link after
-remove ac heater and heater core junk
-mount MSD box, wired it in last weekend

Got the heims in, just need to make a trip to fastenall and I should have a working sway bar again after tomorrow. My first time TIG welding, didn't turn out too bad, still have a lot to learn though.

I want to get a tube to tie them together also, just couldn't find any in the remnant pile at the steel supplier.

Made it so I can switch back to the other sway bar if I want also, it is really stiff so I can do donuts with it :pimp:

I want to get a tube to run accross the back. Maybe I can find one in the remnant pile Monday

The arms turned out really nice actually

I hate welding outside, one tab came out decent, the other had a gail force wind blow as soon I started. That is the second time these same tabs have been welded with porosity lol.

Didn't get to test it out too much, but I think I like it better from what I can tell, the other was just way too stiff.

Got a storage bay for the suburban

Bye bye front clip and doors :pimp:

Yeah, I want to take the entire front clip off and mount the radiator and battery so I can run without the front clip

Then I'll skin it

I'll cut the fenders like this, my tire rub every once and a while and it kills me to see my tires cutting cut

Moving the battery to the fire wall

Took out the A/C yesterday and built this today, gotta pop some dimple dies in and weld it tomorrow then mount it.

It's hinged

I'm going to pick up either 100 or 120' of structural pipe tomorrow

Spent way too much time on this battery mount

picked up about 65ish feet of 1.5" sch40 structural pipe also

I think it should be enough to get the main structure, then I'll probably get some of the 1.5" dom they have for gussets and more triangulation

Crappy TIG vs MIG

Burnt through a few times with the TIG, but am getting better, I couldn't do the 90* edge with TIG, I was burning through really bad on the other side. Maybe if I had a better angle but I just wanted to get it done

Thanks, I thought it turned out alright, I thought about adding another smaller dimple on the top piece. I might do that tomorrow, probably not

I'm trying to give more attention to detail now that I have more time to work on my truck

I'm trying to not use thicker material than I have to also, want to be below 6000

Got the battery mounted today, forgot to take a pic though

Gotta take it back apart and get some paint on the firewall though, it was raining today so I only sprayed it with primer

Looks hideous right now but the radiator is mounted. I'll ad some gussets and dimples. It will also look better when it gets tied into the cage.

It's going to get covered with a grill anyways, I want to do an early grill, like a 73-79

The tubes have slight bends, Can't see it too well

Forgot my camera
