I could use some help. swapped engine.

I had the coil tested at the parts store, I even checked it with the multimeter. I replaced the cap, rotor. the control module Tested good.

Replaced the ignition pickup. made sure the wires were hooked up correctly.
Only way a coil pack can be tested is for continuity, can't test the output voltage. I'd say find another one and go from there really.

well i'll see what happens tomorrow when I crank her over. then if I can get my hands on some cash Ill go pick up another coil but im gonna hit the sack for the night

but im gonna hit the sack for the night

Ditto,

But as mentioned, after everything we discussed between PM,s and open forum, i personally would at the point of changing the coil.

Since you have power to the cap, but nothing is happening in the cylinders, even with timing out of sync to keep it from starting, you usually always get backfiring and coughing, spitting out the carb from a mistimed cylinder spark plug spark igniting any fuel in the cylinder.

Okay.. so aparently lastnight when I tried that and said it sounded like it was cranking faster.. Evidently I forgot to put the #1 plug and plugwire back on..

so after I did that it sounds the same just cranking

Pull a plug wire off one of the plugs stick a screw driver in the plug wire and then hold the screw driver 1/4" from the block and have someone turn the key to see if you are getting any spark at all.

BTW, i wasn't doubting a previous poster for suspecting the coil pack initially, i was simply trying to make sure that he had the timing set up to where it should at least fire, or attempt to, it's a good starting point.

At first OP was giving some weird descriptions as to where everything was pointing and whatnot. So no disrespect to the other dude :D

BUT, since you say there are no signs of spitting, sputtering, coughing out the carb, i'm still gonna have to agree with the coil being possibly bad now, there should be SOMETHING firing in the cylinders, even if the timing is off, one of the cylinders should spark and ignite any fuel that was put in there during cranking attempts.

It'll cough out the carb because it fires the fuel at the wrong time, essentially firing it when the intake valves are opening or opened,

try to find a loaner coil pack to try out and see if it works before you buy one. if possible

well I went and bought one.. Installed it with dizzy still in. and No spark still.. gonna try to Pull the dizzy out. and do the finger popping again..

Damn this sure got tricky...

This maybe o weird question but is the rotor moving at all???? I've heard of oil punps breaking the rod that moves the dizzy gear.... Chech it out

Also how's the weather there? Spray some wd40 inside the cap sometimes humidity distorts the spark

Did you greased the module? See if any wire is burned inside the dizzy and don't leave stuff out even I you think it doesn't matter

yeah the rotor turns when the engine is cranked. The weather is a bit cool no burnt wires in the dizzy. technically everything is brand new in there, except for the module. I had the Module tested 5 times. and it read good all 5.

okay and. just for the hell of it, I ran a wire from the Pos. terminal on the battery. Straight to the b+ on the dizzy. And Nothing. still the same.. so is that still something inside of my dizzy? or..?

Only thing i can think of now with the dizzy, and i'm not even sure if that style dist has it, because i have not torn them completely down before, but i know in my TBI dist there is a small coil in there, called the pick-up coil. I had this burn out on mine once and prevented spark.

like a $10 part too, but required removing the gear and pulling everything out and apart to replace.

Yeah. Mine has that, I replaced that yesterday also. still no spark. Also I ran a hotwire. to the 2 wires on the Dizzy. Red and yellow. Still didnt spit or sputter while cranking

well, at this point, without actually being there i'm really not sure what esle to tell ya personally.

pull some plugs and make sure you havent flooded out the engine by all this cranking. make sure the plugs are getting spark.
