Well, Failed smog. He said I have a gross leak in the fuel system, And something about an EGR vacuum leak. And my CFM Tech spacer doesn't have the CARB sticker, So that failed. He also said it failed the 15MPH test because my tires were to big. Hell, I took off the 42s and put on the 38s.

I need to pull off the TBI spacer, Pull the tank and check the seal on the pump too( I just pulled the damm tank when I did the shackle flip). And replace all the fuel filler hoses.

Great.

Smog test? Whats that?:dunno:

Oh yeah, you live "out there".....

How did he test the fuel system? I'm guessing he pressurized it somehow and it did not hold pressure.
Before you drop the tank, can you duplicate what he did? If so, you might be able to find the leak somewhere else.
I'm thinking a low pressure setup and lots of spraying with a windex bottle full of soap solution on all the hoses.

And just out of curiosity, what was the deal about the tires? 15 mph is 15 mph no matter what you are spinning.
I suppose it needs to get up to a certain rpm. Maybe low range next time??

It was hard to understand the guy. He didnt speak that English that well. Indian I think. It did well on the 25mph test. The 15 was bad, He said something about little tires would do well. Dont know, But these are the little tires. I do remember when I pulled my tank last time, When degreasing it, Their was a couple bubbles showing around the sending unit in the tank seal. Thats it Im sure. Also the rubber gas filler hoses are original and old. I will replace those. Just went to rockauto.com and was going to buy the seals and O-rings. But they wanted $20.00 for shipping and the parts were $18.00. I will go to Autozone.

WTF is a 15 MPH test? You poor guys have to deal with a lot of crap. Tell him it will do well over 15 mph, that's not a problem. ;)

THe Burb has a shift kit in it and on the street it chirps the tires everytime going into 2nd. The guy standing at the computer jumped out of the way when it shifted. It almost jumped off the dyno thing. I moved ahead of time knowing it might jump off. That guy was scared for a second there.

Got the tank out. Its about 1/2 full. So about 20 gallons. No biggie though. Getting used to pulling it. Took about 20 minutes. The pump wasn't sealed right. Just need to put it on correct this time.

The issue im concerned about is my custom burned chip i had DaveW here do for me. It was throwing code 43 and 44 so he deleted those. It passes the visual, but it failed due to the EGR. So i will need to research that.

When he applied the 5 LBS of air to the tank, did he pinch off the line at the charcoal canister. The fuel pump should have no effect on this test. The system is non vented and this is what they are testing, been there. I had to pull my 43 gal after market tank and replace the seal to the roll over valve/vent line to the charcoal canister. Why is the visual showing TAMPERED.

He did clamp off something on the canister.

The tampered thing is the CFM Tech TBI spacer. Their is no CARB sticker for it, like the sticker I got for my smog legal headers. I called CFM and they said they dont need one. I guess they do. I need to pull if off before getting another smog.

Wow it just keeps coming doesnt it? I dread taking mine in for the smog. It all looks to be there but they are being so anal as of late especially with the evap system. I have to pull the tank on mine so I might just replace all the hoses while I have the tank down. Freakin Cali emmisions.

The 15mph test and your shift kit go hand in hand.

The problem with it is your shift kit is more than likely holding gears longer than stock. So at 15mph they're looking for certain readings assuming it's spinning stock rpms but at 15mph you might be in 1st still and on the border of shifting into 2nd. So if it gets into 2nd it'll lower the rpms and probably pass.

I had a friend deal with this on his truck. It's an extended cab chevy with 35's, 4.56's and a shift kit. He took it to the guy I do all my stuff with and he was able to drive the truck on the rollers in a way that got it to shift into 2nd before it took the 15mph reading which lowered the rpm's and got it to pass.

You beat me to it.:waytogo:

If thats the case can't they just do the 15 mph test after they run it up fast enough it hits 2nd gear then let off back to 15 mph? If you keep it low throttle it shouldn't downshift I wouldn't think.

Yes they can and good techs do that, especially the car nuts that I go to.
But some techs don't really care and if you fail you have to come back to them, or so they think.:dunno:

I wouldn't bother with the tires at this point, just stick it in low and pull the front driveshaft.:D

I think this is what happened to me....

Mine NEVER left first....
No one pinched anyting by the evap canister, either.

Thanks for the reminder about the spacer. Definitely painting mine flat grey or black when i reseal my intake....might as well make it less noticeable.

Well if he's a jerk, or has been burned before by state inspectors he will see it, they are not dumb you know, at least most are not.

If you have a 700R4 just readjust the TV cable looser before you test it, it should shift sooner and softer. Be sure to readjust before you drive too far, you don't want to be slipping the clutches.

Understood. But if its painted and dirty, chances of him catching it are way less than all shiny as it is now....
